The baby bus galaxy failed today.

(After a panic cos I totally forgot about the booking until I was going out the door to go to work).

It failed on 2 perished tyre valves.

I'll take that Thank you :-)

Really? A car can fail on tire valves? I had no idea!

Same here.. are condition of tyre valves now part of the MoT?!  How does one properly check them?

Posted

Well when I actually looked at them they are all perished. If you bent them over they were cracked all the way around.

I suspect they weren't changed the last time the tyres were done.

I've failed a few in the past where the pound land wheel trim metal ring almost wears through them

It's an often missed part of the test, too. A lot of testers simply don't do it. Also, wheeltrims have made them lazy.

A good fail though surely?

Something easily missed and possible nasty consequences.

As per BBC Points of View .......makes the fee worthwhile and I'd gladly pay double

That has to be the most impressive least faffy fail in the history of autoshite. Well done that man.

I always like to watch MOT tests. It's a good sign if the tester opens the fuel filler to check the state of the seal. A lot don't.

I should change the title to something like "Best mot fails" or something. Except I don't know how. :-)

The garage is run by a mate who does a proper test but won't fail silly things like the odd bulb and wiper rubbers, he will just do them.

But that's permitted under the PRS Rules. minor repairs can be carried out and logged prior to logging off the test, and it registers as a pass, with the Fail paperwork also being printed. It means less faffing for the customer coming back for a retest for wiper blades and bulbs etc. I have seen discs and pads replaced under the scheme, tyres too. All above board and legit, helping the customer on their way without messing.

If you think about it, if the valve fails you go from an inflated tyre to flat in a second, its more dangerous than a nail in the tyre.

I've given lots of advisories on valve stems
