Never seen one of that generation with the full length canvas roof - my mate over the road has a 2001 version with one. That age of Polo (1990-1994) seems to rust a lot more than the earlier ones, any idea why? Were they all built in Spain rather than Wolfsburg perhaps?

possibly id have to look into that one, just got wind of a 93 Granada Scorpio looking for a home too, waiting for more info, getting the polo tomorrow lunchtime :D

seems to drive ok, has a idling problem it wont do it, seems fine when you push the foot down, so maybe crap in the carb or a dead lead or something..

what makes me laugh.. no remote mirrors, central locking, power windows or even a trip recorder but has a electric roof which i'm glad to say works but the fabric looks like its shrunk a little...

put 4 litres in it drove it back 60 kms and didnt run out result :D

Yeah the Mk3s were built in Spain, and it really shows. Mine didn't rust too badly, but it had been well looked after (G40, enthusiast owned since new). Just silly stuff like poor paintwork and rustproofing, parts being made out of rubbish quality metal like the filler neck and exhaust hangers, lots of squeaks and rattles which weren't there on my Mk2. And I had a boggo Mk3 after too which was the same poor quality.Do like the big long leccy roof though, and it looks a million times better for a wash. Scruffylook FTL!

I concur - it looks lots better for a wash and brush up, in fact it looks really clean to me.I learnt to drive in one of those Polos and don't have huge love for them, but I am going to have to source a <£500 supermini for the son of a friend of the wife's sometime this year (when he pulls his finger out and passes his test, anyway) - and I was thinking either a Polo or a bubble Micra really. But I think a minter of an 81-90 model might be a better bet.

yes out of the 2, the Mk2 is a better faster more responsive vehicle, though i'd like a Mk1 to finish the collection  for now anyway
