Stricken Ovlov 740 advice, Fix/sell/scrap? Wanna buy a broken Volvo??

Hi gang,

 

Some may remember the Volvo 740 my Dad has owned for about 9 years, it's been a great car but recently the headgasket went leading to a big end knocking itself to bits. New engine time them!

 

My Dad was stuck without wheels so went out an bought a Honda Jazz so the Volvo is now surplus, even if it was repaired. So.. what to do? It's a nice motor and it's in good condition, PLUS has LPG fitted for mega cheap motoring. Replacing the engine wouldn't be difficult. 

 

The sensible thing to do would be to ring car-take-back or just drag it round to the scrap steel processors but OBV that's not the autoshite way. I was toying with sticking a different powerplant in, possibly a Rover V8 and autobox but realistically it's just not gonna happen.

 

Do any Scotoshiters want it?? I recon £100 would buy it. No tax, no MOT, bring and engine and drive it away.

I'd be all over this if I hadn't left the spare engine for this in my other trousers.

And it's Silver... plate is G68 GUY, which says Gay guy if you squint in a blizzard.

740s are past it banger wise apparently! It's all Mondeos and Lexus nowadays.

Facelift ones aren't my thing and I've already got one with HGF - awesome, eh? If one of the other Scottish lot want it (or anyone, if you want to travel) I've got a complete B230FK here which'd probably be okay with a service and possibly a HG - it runs but it's a bit lumpy.

If you want to go down the other route Tim, I believe a conversion kit for the LS1 V8 is available for not much coin if you happen to find an LS1 lying around.

Isn't an FK a turbot lump? A yank V8 would be awesome but would exceed my budget of £0012.00

Seriously there are still lots around - unless you have a decent lump lying around to drop in it probably isn't worth it.

Where are you? I may want it, maybe just for spares but it really depends on spec/colour/engine etc. Guessing B200E and M46 box (4spd+OD).

So much for my guessing skills then! B230 and M47 make it a fair bit more desirable. I'd probably only want to break it to help my other 3 sadly. I always need parts.
