There is always one fucking dick that spoils everything for everybody else. Its ignorant, selfish cunts like him that mean people like us running reasonable a-frame and dolly set-ups are subjected to the wrath of VOSA.

Absolutely EPIC performance! Who in their right mind would tow a Renault mobile home with a bloody Clio? Ye Gods, I thought it was going to fall off once it pulled out of the drive! His total inability to load it on verged on the lethal AND took him half an hour. If I took that long to couple a car up I'd be out of the towing business in a week!

why would you post that on you tube? Hey world, I`m a twat :)

shame it wasn`t more dramatic though......

the final scene looked like the trafic was trying to rut the clio as they drove off into the sunset

Posted

I was willing the Clio to pop a wheelie.

Are A frames normally so high?

It's a towing dolly.

Are A frames normally so high?

thats a dolly, not an a frame..

and if anyone wants to know the exact law on a frames, I was in court last year for using one `illegally`  Defended myself and got off as its a very grey area. The copper who pressed charges didn`t seem so happy when I was questioning him.......pedantic twat

Well done you.

First prosecution ive heard of that's gone 'the distance'.

Do tell us the detailed circs, please?

Why is the dolly so high though, what was it designed to tow? Every one I have ever seen has been very low profile.

Towing a Peugeot 206 from the auction behind my Xantia

206 was taxed and tested ( this was 2 years ago )

actual charges were `driving in a manner likely to cause danger and nuisance to others` due to the law stating that only broken down vehicles are allowed to be broken down. Mine wasn`t, and it still had auction sticker in window so couldn`t argue that one. I had a working trailer board.

If the Peugot was broken down it would have been legal apparantly, but I argued that as it was from an auction it was probably broken in some way and would need checking over before i deem it safe to drive.

my manner of driving was fine, as I have been using an a frame for years  and the copper had no issues with my actual driving, so I wasn`t `driving in a manner likely to cause danger and nuisance to others`

magistrates seemed confused as to why I was in front of them.

So basically.....suck on that tax collecting pedantic tell tale twit bully piggy :)

So after that, I always unplugged something so that the cars I was towing wouldn`t run..... Bought a trailer now anyway

So the only contentious issue is that the peugeot engine was working

My other gripe is that the coppers first spoke to me when I was already parked up to go to a shop (legally parked) but in court he said he pulled me over using the blue lights. why lie?

P S, any coppers on here??

why lie?

Because he knew his actions were virtually (actually?) totally baseless and unsustainable in court.

A small tip- next time stand astride the drawbar when loading and use an even bigger van. A smart crack round the bollocks should provide a much needed grounding in physics.

Posted

why not just drive the van? it seemed to run? Can't have got into anymore trouble than the method he used!

Posted

I might be wrong, but he seemed to suggest that the Trafic weighed "3/4 of a ton...no more than a ton"  That sounds way under, to me.

Posted

Dodgytom, sounds like you got off because the plod tried to do you for the wrong offence.

Posted

Shame we didn't get to see it unloaded. It had all the makings of the van bumper being ripped off.

Sorry bit off topic but i see loads of wee Fiats being a framed by campervans, as they will be working cars is this not allowed as well?

if it's under 750kg then no problem

if it's over 750kg and all four wheels have overrun brakes then no problem

if it's a recovery then no problem

else problem

Not sure if Fiats are allowed. From what I remember it need to be braked if the car is over 750kg. Not sure on weight of Fiat. after 750 the braking system needs to be working on all wheels, so even the clever ones that work the car`s handbrakes are illegal. I have a printout of the exact rules somewhere, I`ll try to find it.  I remember reading it all, and everything you could think of as a way around was outlawed, they really don`t want A frames on the road, but most coppers including the one that pulled me don`t know the law either

Not long after buying my a frame years ago I was towing a Sierra 4x4 with a Citroen Bx. Bit daft with hindsight but I learnt the hard way that a Sierra is grippier an heavier than a BX when the whole lot span around on a wet roundabout. The sierra came right round and punched the Bx in the back wing and I had to drive off the roundabout the wrong way.   I drove home very very slowly and only ever towed lighter cars than the towcar!!!
