Some more archival shots today. Sorry, the snow + cold is keeping me from mass spotting!

Fantastic! Nice to see that Canada has its own version of me, I love K-cars. Got to get one eventually.

Posted

I'm liking that Topaz - thats exactly the sort of car that frequently featured in that old 1988 copy of Car Trader I was on about earlier.

Posted

It is a beauty and seems to be regularly used. Most of those were never cared for and 98% of them look similar to this now or worse:

Posted Image

The red one is either very well preserved or it's had some effort put into it. They're not generally seen as desireable cars, and this one is the poverty-spec 'L', so it's all the more surprising and all the more fascinating. I want it!

Posted

I have a handful of new spots to go up soon but I'll wait until I have a "full batch" of new ones before posting them. In the meantime, here's some more from the dusty archives.

I'm quite keen to buy this one if it ever comes up for sale. It's the only one in Atlantic Canada, as far as I know.

This old Cavalier is in shockingly good condition (most of these are either long gone or should be) and seems to be used daily. Low-spec too, check out the single mirror and steel wheels.

Posted Image

This suspiciously has an automatic gearbox shoved into it. No idea what's under the bonnet.

Love the Renault 5 and the Capri. Were the Renaults called 'Le Car' in Canada same as the US?

Yes, except in the (French-speaking) province of Québec, where it was just the 5.

Excellent. Reminds me of:

Now I want to see you find a '75 New Yorker with a missing front passenger door 8)

[yankie] thats pimp dog .. [/yankie] wicked spots chap :D

Excellent spots there, hard to choose a favourite but possibly the R5 as I could quite happily waste a good hour or two wandering around that yard and the Monte Carlo for the '80's cop show bad guy feeling :D

And here's the big End of 2008 Spotter Bash! All new ones.

A dirty but very un-shitey VW Corrado VR6 to start the show

This Cadillac DeVille D'Elegance has black tint windows and "Playboymodels.ca" stickered on the back. Pimp?

Old Bonneville with dull paint, threatening rust, and collapsed left suspension

A Bombardier Iltis (built in Canada by VW license)

Posted Image

Posted Image

Evergreen Volvo 240 from Newfoundland that looks "well traveled"

Posted Image

Early first-gen Q45 with personal plate, wouldn't be surprised if still owned by original owner

Posted Image

Old Lincoln Continental with collapsed gas suspension

Posted Image

Posted Image

Anyone ever seen this much rust on a Mondeo before? Me neither.

Posted Image

Nissan Sentra with a broken mirror. I had one of these once, fantastic little cars.

Posted Image

I drive past this Merc almost daily and I've watched as it's been stripped down, sanded down, and now re-painted over the past several months. Looks like he's installed European lights too. Perhaps he's awaiting the arrival of some European bumpers to complete the look?

A solid Toyota 4x4, wish I could have gotten a frontal shot

Posted Image

Rough 'n' Ready

Posted Image

Wonder if this will ever be rescued or if it'll just fade away?

Posted Image

323 with bad paint and mis-matched wheel covers

Posted Image

Posted Image

This one looks well beyond rescue. "Class of '83" Wonder how long it's been sitting there.

Thanks for the pics, agree with Pog about that quality pic.

Cheers.

I think the Caddy/shite house combo pic is a surefire winner for advertising the joy of a shite lifestyle.I believe the Berettas are a pile o' shite to drive, but I too quite like the look of them - very smooth style and quite unlike the general styling output of the Septic motor industry at the time, bar the Taurus I s'pose.

Posted

You have all posted my thought already...caddy/shitehouse photo is outstanding...and I also really like the look of the Beretta.

Posted

One detail I particularly like about the house/Caddy shot is the "No Parking" sign that the Caddy is parked right in front of...I've never been in a Beretta, but long ago, a friend's parents owned a Corsica, the four-door version of the same car. Even as a child, and while it was still fairly new, I knew it to be a pile of junk. Harsh and noisy engine, crap interior, bad ride, and terrible build quality as well. Would be a great winter beater. Most Berettas and Corsicas I see now are in terrible shape - this one is from Canada's west coast where there is no salt and basically no snow, so much better shape.

Glad I am not the only one! Thanks for the info Heep, I'd be surprised if there's any over here. Cant think of the last time I saw an average 'US' market car..

The Caddy picture is great.

Keep the Town Cars/Crown Vics/Grand Marquis coming, probably the best design to come out of Ford in the 1980s. If I lived in the States, I've have a Police Interceptor fo' sure!

That rusty van in the woods in your 2008 spots is a Chevy van from the 1960s:

Actually rather scary shite house, I think the wooden scaffolding is holding it all together...

Posted Image

...and in the driveway was this Datsun 510/Stanza/Violet/whatever, and behind it...

Posted Image

...a Commer! I didn't think these were ever sold in Canada. This is certainly the only one I've ever seen here.

Decent looking 323 but sitting at a scrapyard with ajar bonnet. Shame, but I'm not in a position to save it. :( Hopefully someone will.

Brilliant pics, Canada looks pretty picturesque in the winter time

Posted Image

^^I love this - what is it? Mid section looks a bit like a UK market Cavalier from the 70's. Was the pic take in Saint John by any chance?

Posted

Not in Canada of course but I was amazed to see a Commer Highwayman Camper parked up in Newport California a while back, on California plates too. That was the same day I was following an A Reg VW Camper in Santa Monica, no photos, you'll have to trust me on that

Thanks for the compliments! The picture was indeed taken in Saint John - all the above were except the 323 and broken truck in Hampton.Car is a 1976 Pontiac Ventura, or at least I think it's a '76. Only the '76 had that particular grille arrangement, but it looks as though the nose has been replaced on this one so the main body could be older or newer. I hadn't seen a Ventura in years upon years upon years.

March 3 Update, another handful. Still in the dregs of winter, hopefully more interesting stuff will come out later.

I actually spotted this one years ago. Sorry about the incredibly terrible pic. It's a Mk1 Golf (non-scene!!!) hatchback that appears to have been converted into a suspect Caddy by means of welding on a Jeep Comanche (?) pickup bed...
