AS Midlands Meet - Jan '15 Report

Waking up at half six on a Saturday may seem a foolish idea, but I dragged myself out of bed, grabbed a broom and brushed off the XM ready for the off. Breakfast was two hours away. I needed to get a shift on.

After a hearty breakfast - so large that I had no requirement for a Death Burger later - we headed off to see what delights were awaiting us. Autoshiters soon flocked around this quality* selection of commercial vehicles.

Have you even heard of a Dodge Journey before? This was one Dodgy Dodge, with 103 recorded miles, but a VOSA-reported 223,000! Not bad for a four-year old.

The auction began with this Peugeot 406. Looked a tidy ol' bus, and quite a few Autoshiters named it as their Diesel choice. £360 hammer price.

The Pillocks braved the Death Burgers. Lord Sterling captured the evidence. Before consuming TWO burgers himself.

The oddball winner of the Motorway Muncher was this hopeless-on-motorways Pajero 2.5 diesel auto, on account of being one of very few big-engined vehicles. £560.

This thing was hopeless! A completely flat front tyre, and more smoke than Dot Cotton. It still fetched over a grand. I hope The Wall enjoys its new delivery vehicle.

Andy_18S admires the powerhouse that is a Citroen Relay 1.9 diesel. I should have gone for this, but the dreadful state of the LDV pick-up made me suspect it'd sell for sod-all. I was wrong.

These cars are not for sale.

The drive home was absolutely beautiful. Apart from Telford. Which was absolutely horrible and completely gridlocked. I opted for the A5 on the return home, on account of the M54 being almost completely roadworks at the moment.

A grand day out and a top bit of fun. Was really interesting to try and predict what would sell for absolutely nothing. Sadly I don't seem to have a pic of the £180 Suzuki Wagon R, which was spectacularly bad.

A+ write up.

Funnily enough a Dodge Journey pulled up next to me in traffic the other morning, the first time I can recall seeing one. I think most had the VW 2.0TDI.

I like* the jacket of the chap on the right here. Very unassuming and the epitome of good taste.

I hope its not anyone here, if it is, I actually meant that and was not being sarcastic in any way or form......

You need the Lord Voldemerc close-up of my burger. I've never been asked if I wanted beans on my burger before, but today my life feels more complete.

£180 Wagon-R was a winner. I did wonder if it would have fit in the bed of the LDV for some Knight-Rider style action. Hit the tilt button and wait for the crash.

And the Dodge Journey, I'd loved to have known how a 4 year old car ended up in that place. Missing 120k from the odometer, last taxed 6 months ago, and no MOT, although it has been looked at by VOSA because that's how we know it's been clocked.

It had a dealer price hanger thrown onto the rear seat reading £4995. What did it go for?

A full list of results is now in the Autoshite in the Commity thread.

The dodgy Dodge was a 2 liter dizzer and had no recent tax or MoT which suggested that it had been parked up in a dealers for many moons. Hammer price was £3400

Oops.  I only ever take my foot out of my mouth to put the other one in.

Andy has a highly developed and sophisticated sense of humour.  After all, he spent the morning breathing diesel in a Cannock shed with us lot.

By the way, did Dugong show up in the end? I know he hadn't when I departed cafe number two after the world's biggest chip butty.

Did you manage to catch up with it?

He hadn't appeared by the time I left cafe #3...

THREE? I've never seen so much food on the floor than at the post-auction truck stop. Three sausages below our table alone.

I was so happy the MG started on the first attempt at the second cafe, I exited the carpark sideways. I R HOOLIGAN. Sadly, the next visit will be in a modern (Mrs_Pillock really enjoyed it, and SPR will be around in 4 weeks time so it'll be a family outing!) so I'll park away from you lot.

Dugong did turn up in the end not long after FPB7 left. I've literally only just come home after spending from about 5pm until now flitting between Hollies (right until we got asked to leave as they were closing up) and the Hilton Services were me and Dugong tucked into some meals whilst Minimad showed us some pics/vids.

I have also driven the Chaseracer Peugeot 205, Minimad V70 and Dugong MGF.

Thank you all for a great day!

I'm only here to say that I was only slightly killed by SWMBO as I did say I'd be back just after lunch. Sorry to have missed you Jon but I'm glad the F finally saw sense and carried you there!

The 'F behaved in the end. Being left in a cold snap did it no favours but it sprung to life in short order once a slave battery was found.

I did two all-nighters last week so there was no way I was gonna get up in time for the auction. I tried, but failed miserably.
