Electric windows

The rear n/ s window on my Sd1 has never worked - I can hear what I presume to be the relay clicking inside the door, the lights also flicker as well.

Obviously there is power, I am thinking seized motor?

Opinions.

Mucky contacts in the switch would be my guess.

Used the switch to open/close the other windows, so it must be summat else.

Try spraying silicon lubricant or similar between the glass and guides, they can get very sticky with lack of use. If the lights are pulling down it would seem to be seized motor or stuck glass. On older cars you can often strip the motor, give it a good clean and lube.

The thermal cutout did it's job, thats why I think the motor is FUBAR.

Had a seized motor on my Rangie. Very simple to get it out, pull it apart, clear out all the dried grease and bingo! Worked a treat. If only every job on that car had been that easy...

With the motor removed from the assembly, you can then try it and see if it moves.

Jiggered motor imo.

Everything else up to that point is grafting.

If the motor was OK and the regulator was crippled, you would probs still hear the motor.

Ironic that I give advice, when my own car has had exactly the same issue, since I bought it, last June.

I don't sit in the back. Fuck it.

Before you start pulling things apart, might be worth getting someone to slam the door whilst you hold the switch in. This used to happen a lot with the rear Windows in my old E34 (guessing that the brushes were sticking to the commutator in the motor). This trick always got them going

Take the door apart and have a look, until you do this everything else is just guesswork, so get off your arse.

Will do, although stripping doors apart is a PITA.

Definitely motor. A problem with the mech would be slow window, grinding etc. It would have to be jammed absolutely solid to dim the lights, which wouldn't just happen overnight.

I find taking them apart is easy ... putting them back together is more difficult.

I'll send Chester round - the fat little bastard can open ANY electric window! :)
