cort16 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I think all the mods are sensible. I guess the lowering is a matter of taste at least it's on lower springs rather than chopped.
messerschmitt owner Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 D5 V70.I've had some problems with mine (Which appear to have been fixed now) , but they are great cars. Not sure of your budget, but some of the earlier ones are bargains.£1500 approx - ideally less.
messerschmitt owner Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 I think all the mods are sensible. I guess the lowering is a matter of taste unless it's on lower springs rather than chopped.lowered is no use when fully laden - it does its own lowering then ...
Lankytim Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 2.1 Citroen XM estate? messerschmitt owner and Minimad5 2
Junkman Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I'd avoid those W210s like gonorrhea. They challenge the demanding standards set by Fiat in the Sixties in terms of rustproneness and shoddy quality.BMWs are too BMWlike and if Citroen would have ever actually built what they intended, their cars could probably even be useable. Nah, man, buy this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2004-FORD-MONDEO-GHIA-X-TDCI-BLACK-/321627377152
Pillock Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 A TDCI Mondeo? The closest thing to buying a Laguna without buying a Laguna. Admittedly that one has a solid flywheel, but it also has no front seats because the last owner got sentimentally attached to them.
cort16 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 The problem is one you go past a certain year you have to deal with all the bollocks that comes with modern diesels. I recon I'd be looking of an early 530d estate as they have plenty of power and are nice to drive.
messerschmitt owner Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 agreed - but I do enough high speed, long distance miles to hopefuly sort out DPF problems, can cope with an auto so no dmf and the tax on a big Merc or BM is no different than that on a pre-2001 vehicle. I'd like a little fun with the next estate - and apart from that Rover hearse in the Ebay tat thread, whch my wife would kill me if I got, think a big, quick auto is the way to go.
hairnet Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 j tin shiter might have put a 2.7 fx4 motah in one

Sloth in a bowl Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 How about a Hyundai Santa Fe? Maximum load space, minimum use in a tight car park. oldcars 1
messerschmitt owner Posted January 3, 2015 Author Posted January 3, 2015 How about a Hyundai Santa Fe? Maximum load space, minimum use in a tight car park.the ones in budget are OMG Annual Tax £485
cort16 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 What about a Kia Sedona or a Nissan terrano ? You should be able to get pre 2001 versions if them so avoiding the car tax dinosaur megasourarse.
messerschmitt owner Posted January 3, 2015 Author Posted January 3, 2015 thing is, the 4x4s/SUVs are invariably smaller inside than a BMW or Merc estate and fuel consumption takes a hit too ... I'd like a Disco just because I really like them but they barely nudge 28mpg and the rear load space is minimal.
oldcars Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 the ones in budget are OMG Annual Tax £485I have a 54 plate Diesel cdx its nice. Tax is "only" £265. Is it newer ones that are £485?
messerschmitt owner Posted January 3, 2015 Author Posted January 3, 2015 the cheap ones are £485 - those in budget ...
oldcars Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 the cheap ones are £485 - those in budget ...Are they petrol ones? What year are you looking at?
cort16 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 The Kia Sedona is a big people carrier thing with a 2.9 td engine in it. Should be decent for towing and they're massive inside.
messerschmitt owner Posted January 3, 2015 Author Posted January 3, 2015 it might be - but I have a people carrier already - it's a Dispatch Combi and if I wanted another, I'd simply buy a low roof version (Synergie, Ulysse or the Pug version). They're more economical than the Kia and will do exactly what I want but I have one ...
r.welfare Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I would have thought anything post March 2001 but pre March 2006 is max £285 pa RFL? If the Kia Sedona is anything like my Mazda MPV you're right on the latter but wrong on the former, the lack of traction is surprising and would be fairly horrific with more weight on the rear.
messerschmitt owner Posted January 3, 2015 Author Posted January 3, 2015 just looking at those Kias - how can a 2.9 be incapable of travelling at more than 105mph and with a 0-60 almost as slow as my Messerschmitt and then do it at less than 35mpg... They supposedly have 143bhp - my 2.0litre 110 Dispatch can do almost 40mpg, 0-60 in about 12 seconds and do 105-10mph!
cort16 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Because it's probably out of a1968 combine harvester so has less chance of blowing up.I think they're okay those Sedonas they certainly sold enough of them. They also have a bonnet air intake which I think is why 99% of people bought one.
cort16 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 You probably won't so better than an early 530d tbh you just need to find a decent one .
