Bren Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Any vauxhall gurus here? Looking for a cheap code reader on shite bay to see exactly why my 07 vectra diesel is a bastard to start. My mate lent me his sons reader, however the plug was different - his car is a petrol 1.6. My local specialist charges £30 plus vat to read the codes which I think is a bit steep for what is involved. Anybody know which one?
the judge Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 I have a basicish one which should read it. In widnes

gordonbennet Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 I was recommended to buy an Autel MS509, around £33/35 on Amazon, not regretted, has done everything i've asked of it, quickly diagnosed the cylinder that was slightly misfiring on the Legacy which ironically switched the stability control warning light on, the machine gave codes for weak mixture, indeed it turned out to be a slightly blocked LPG injector on the cylinder the scanner diagnosed.Note, i haven't clue if it connects to Vx so ignore my useless scribble.
dieselnutjob Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 An 07 should be EOBD compliant so a cheap ELM327 based PC device should work. I happen to make these things for Rovers and MGs in case anyone hadn't noticed... £30 sounds pretty reasonable if the mechanic is using professional equipment which probably cost him £2000 or more. The basic principle with these things is to follow this process. 1. Read the codes and write them all down.2. Erase the codes.3. Drive around for a bit and read them again to see what comes back. The codes in step 3 are the ones that are most likely related to the issue rather than 1. HillmanImp and alf892 2
