Looks great man. What is like to drive, is it reasonably comfortable? Or are the rear springs ROCK 'ARD for carrying stuff about?

Fixed?

I missed this last time round but have had similar issues with the 1100 that had me close to scrapping it (don't panic I didn't).

Posted

It's fixed, the clutch fork had indeed seized and my stomping the pedal had also fucked the clutch and the seals on the cylinder I'd just paid £50 for. Gearbox out, fork cleaned up, new slave cylinder seals and clutch fitted and my wallet 250 notes lighter and it was back on the road.

I've done around 700 miles since and a few runs to the tip, today was the first time I did some proper pikeying taking dud batteries to be weighed in.

It drives similar to the other Proton which is on cut springs, it's a a bit smoother but still quite stiff. We got some vinyl today to make some kind of load cover.

Overall I'm happy with it.

In other news I'm giving up on the FSO, I don't have the time, money and enthusiasm to put into it at the moment, I'm a second year apprentice welder on shite wages and have 6 cars!

The FSO has been a really hard decision, I've offered it up for free on the FSO group but I still feel quite bad for abandoning it.

I don't think anyone can think ill of you for moving the FSO on. FFS it was more air than car. I love the thread title by the way.

Nobles in Kirkcaldy, £20 for 4 smallish batteries, I had planned to buy more batteries with my winnings but got the tyres fitted instead.

This might make you dribble a bit, seen at today's East Coast Retros meet in Marks Tey :)

Decided to make a load cover. It cost about £40 all in for the wood, fixings and vinyl.

Started by cutting the wood to size, then using L shaped brackets to hold it together.

The load cover is hinged 3/4 of the way up so it can be opened up easily. We ran out of brackets so made some more..

When the frame was fixed together we stretched the vinyl onto it and fixed it in position with a nail gun.

We ran out of daylight but got it in position and it looks decent enough.

Nice one. By the way, being a tiny cab, does it warm up nice and quickly this time of year? Less space to heat and all that. A small pick-up would be ideal for us really.

It warms up inside really well, much better than the other Proton.

Anyway, this is how the rest of it looks.

It needs a little bit of tidying but I'm still really happy with how it's turned out.

In other Jumbuck news, the fuel filler neck has rusty holes in it that I fixed using a radiator hose jubilee clipped over the top of, a spring broke inside the door mechanism meaning that when locked and unlocked the handle didn't engage, after a few days of climbing in from the passenger side I decided to go to a scrapyard in Dundee which had a jumbuck breaking. £10 for the mechanism and the door locks and unlocks nicely.

Also I fitted a cone airfilter which massively improves the acceleration and feel of the car, it's the first car I've had that has responded well to an aftermarket air filter.

The Jumbuck now needs new shocks and top mounts, I'll get them next month!

Thanks, it could be better but I can't be bothered trying to make it any better.
