Me new 2

As requested by ford perv.

Here is the replacement for my rotten mk1 turbo.

I bought it a month ago and drove it back from London - Sunderland (via Taunton and Chesterfield), as well as around the doors, since. and it hasn't missed a beat. Have covered around 1K miles.

1993 rev 2 turbo. Imported in 2008 and spent at least 4 years since, garaged and pretty much unused.

Zero rust. :D Lots of history and bills, including import paperwork. It was imported with the current, shit wheels and seriously loud (but unique and nice, under boost) 3.5" 5Zigen system. Has standard Bilsteins with lowering springs and optional LSD.

Plans are to upgrade the engine injectors, ECU, loom, sensors etc for the rev 3 parts I have. Fit rev 3 MLS head gasket and my CT20 rev 3 turbo, new clutch, timing belt kit, all fluids etc.

Plan to run it at 280-300 bhp at no more than 1.1 bar.

Is currently stock.

Fitting some folding mirrors, probably rev 3 tail lights and spoiler, maybe splitter, some paint work, change indicators and wheels, just small cosmetic things.

Have already replaced the white dials and wanker blue LED's and cut the grille off the lower valance.

They have the best driving position I have ever experienced.

It also has steering fog lights. Which I leave on most of the time, as the current headlight bulbs are seriously shit!

It is a laugh to drive. Even with modest, standard power (230ish?) it has the ability to make holes where they wouldn't normally be.

Diggin that MR layout and power delivery - and the tin top roof, to keep the rust at bay!

That looks nice, i like MR2s, for some reason I was expecting it to have a snorkel popping above the roof line, probably because I havnt seen a standard looking turbo model around for that long it's become the norm, this is yet another car I think gets spoilt by a front number plate

Posted

Yeah, standard/clean ones are getting thin on the ground.

If I can get it looking nice without skirts etc I will be happy.

The sills are razor sharp and so nice it would be a shame to hide them. Lol.

I am not a fan of the Toms snorkel things, either.

I have a front number plate brick coming in the post.

They look alright with import sized ones imo.

Mine had a sticker plate.

the "motorcycle" zorst looks gash but apart from that nicely un-molested

Each to their own, but I like a nice single on them. At least this isn't some Powerflow abortion and has an awesome sound.

Twins are on practically every MR2 and although they can look great, they aren't for me

I prefer a single to exit on the opposite side, but afaik, only the HKS Super Drager and Super Silent do that.

I cut the grille off the lower valance so the pipework can be seen better - and so it doesn't have an unused exhaust recess.

You may like my mates rev 3

Is that really that tidy? Haven't seen one that nice in a very long time, in fact I haven't seen one at all for a good few years!

I like the single zorst, better than the chavvy crap that usually gets put on these.

These can be mental fast and lots of fun sideways lol

Which one?

Mine is, yeah. Looks like it has never been jacked up on the sills.

It has a few marks to the paint, which I will touch in or have resprayed.

Depends on what spoiler I go for etc.

Gonna save the bodywork until the engine work is done, as the engine has to come out and you lean over the sides on these, when working on them.

Scratchy scratchy.

I adore the fact it has no rust, anywhere.

My mate and I had a right good look over it, before I bought it. With it having no skirts, what you see is what you get.

I had the exhaust and boot floor heat shield off, yesterday and it is the same under that.

The red one is the same. We have had it in bits, fitting Toms kit and charge cooler etc and it doesn't have a spot. :)

Cheers for the single exhaust love. :-)

These are fun when it is wet and you give it the beans pulling away (torque limited in first and second) and the LSD bites, but that is where the wet fun ends.

As my mate has always said (lad with that red rev 3), they want to kill you.

He is right and that keeps them interesting/means you respect them. Lol.

I'm confused. You say it's really nice and have done a bit of dewankering but then you say you've cut something off the front and are now going to mess with the engine and lights.

If it's rare to see a standard one, and it's so nice what's wrong with leaving it stock? Sounds like you've taken off ones man's tat only to add your own

Cut the grille off the rear valance, below the bumper.

As it serves no purpose and clutters it up.

I don't intend to do loads to it, but leaving it standard doesn't appeal to me, either.

Rev 3 tail lights, spoiler and front splitter look a lot better, modernising the car (only by a few years) with O.E. parts. The splitter has the added bonus of improving front end lift at speed and understeer, if only slightly.

And who wouldn't want more power? It's not as though I am after crank snapping changes.

280ish BHP is nowt and wakes these right up.

Plus, the rev 2 ignition system isn't the best and likes to overfuel/return poor MPG. Same goes for the intake side. It runs an AFM, the flaps stick.

The rev 3 bins this off and has a MAP and IAT sensor.

Makes for a better engine, all round.

Good job it is my car, if that constitutes tat, in your eyes.

I will definitley be putting my own stamp on it, just as I do with all of my 'toy' cars.

No Veilside shit though. :-)

My boss has one of these, with fish as well.

he offered it to me for scrap money.. general consensus on here was "bring a dustpan and brush", but looking at this I'm now thinking Hmmm..

Dang you!

enjoy the car:)

Fish? Any idea what age and model? I wouldn't want a UK car, T-Bar or sunroof tbh.

Hard to say what condition it would be in,though without anyone seeing it, so don't be put off.

My mate has had three, now and none have been rusty.

Yet the MOT tester is always amazed by how clean his were and so we found it hard to think they could be that rotten.

Found a UK T-Bar in the scrappy, yesterday. Sills looked OK.

Found another, too. Sunroof car with the remains of some horrible big kit and it had knackered sills and rear quarters, arches etc.

I have seen a few knackered ones in yards, but if it looks clean on the sills and arches, it won't be hiding much if anything, imo.

Gonna get it?

Turbot is a new one on me lol. That does automatically make it an import, though.

Find out. It may be a right bargain. PIX :-)

Lol yeah that constitutes tat! Anything aftermarket not non standard is tat. What make people and companies thing that can improve* a car better than the designers?

Especially when he's talking about fitting parts which Toyota themselves designed as improvements!

Leaving the "flappy paddle" airflow meter in place is like having a points distributor and turning your nose up at a lumenition upgrade.

Another side effect of this needless tat, is improved MPG, when driven appropriately. :-)

Lol. Aside from cutting the grille off the rear valance, everything else is and will be O.E. 90% of the parts mentioned are standard, but improved.

I trust Toyota.
