Insurance pointers

Can anyone suggest an insurance company who'd be prepared to quote for a shit old Almera on a classic policy?

I have tried Footman James, but they said it was too young to be a 'classic' and FOAD, do any of the smaller companies accept shit 90s hatchbacks as being classic?

The reason I ask is that I'd like to get another car in the new year, but would also like to keep the Nissan for backup/general pottering, I foresee a maximum of 3000 miles a year being done and if I can get it insured for under £120 on a classic policy I could probably get SWMBO to agree to having more cars than adults again. Last time we had this situation it caused some financial 'issues' and she gets very angry when the possibility of doing this again is mentioned.

its just not viable to pay for a full-blown policy for a car that's really only being kept as a backup option in case one of the others blows up.

Peter James insured the Rover 75 on my existing classic policy for an extra £30, but then added the 3000 mile limit clause whereas before I had unlimited.  Not a problem in your case by the sound of it.  I'm not sure how it'll work at renewal time in March though, but I'll probably just go back to having 20+ year old motors by then as the 3000 limit is a a bit prohibitive.

Edit:  looking at your sig I've just seen you haven't got a 20+ classic as a base, so my post 'aint that useful, sorry!

Lancaster.

But be aware of OMFG Cancellation ££££££Surcharge that can cost more than the policy

fucking hell, Lancaster want £457 on a 3k mile policy, thats £207 more than I pay for my regular cover!

Really, Ive always found them quote me ridiculously cheap - £87 for the Cherry and £198 for the Maverick. Cancellation charges were through the roof though.

Spin the wheel and make no sense!!

Roll up roll up for aynother random quotation!!

The man from Lancaster just called to 'follow up' on the quote, I said it was a bit salty to which he replied my car isn't a classic and isn't worth very much so they can't get a better price.

Bizarre that an undesirable, low value car equals high premium eh?

Give Peter Best a go - they were willing to insure a Rover 600 which I was after a while back, on a classic policy.

Lancaster are brilliant*. They quoted me £1700 for my 214, and one of their marketing droids phoned me the next morning and tried to persuade me that this was a real bargain ! They were somewhat puzzled when I told them that I had already insured the car with a competitor for £200...

Sadly I'm 'only' 29 so obvs a total liability. I also tried to improve my skoda felicia 2.5 years ago by razzing it into the back of an Insignia on the M27. I think this might* count against me...
