What's this car?

Someone has started a gauntlet on another forum I'm on asking what car this is? Apparently it's a 1929 and one of only 2 Van versions as the rest were cars. Another clue is that it's french and not Renault, Peugeot or Citroen. I guessed Hotchkiss but was wrong.

Anyone?

No idea but it is a nice looking old thing.

Has something of the Hot Rod about its proportions and more patina than a pineappler can dream of.

I like the little roof extension over the windscreen. Will need a bit of work and a skip full of cash. Like.

That is insanely cool, sadly it sounds like somebody is about to destroy it by 'restoring' it. When I will these people learn?

Looks rather like a Volvo PV4 (and the 1929 build date would fit), but I'm not very good on cars pre-1960, so I could be wrong :)

EDIT

I've just noticed that the shape of the radiator's all wrong, so it's probably not a PV4.  As you were.

I am not a fan of invasive legislation.....but...you would not be allowed to screw up a historic building so maybe its time vehicles were placed under some kind of control.   American collectors have done some dreadful things but they are by no means the only offenders.

But remember, cars are evil and poison people and must be scrapped where buildings are nice and cuddly and don't hurt anyone.

(We'll have to forget about asbestos, crumbling old dangerous buildings where nobody wants to restore it, naturally).

Maybe I'll build a car out of stone and old wooden beams and shit and give someone a headache in 100 years time.

I was only going by rare, French and radiator shape. It's lovely though and would be nice to keep "dans sans jus" with just enough repair to keep it on the road. I remember seeing a Riley at the Alexandra Palace car show car park for several years that looked like it was about to collapse at any time -it had a sign in the window that said "resisting the urge to over-restore". It was marvellous.

....But no Georges Irat cars were like that in 1929. However, in 1929 Georges Irat bought the Chaigneau-Brasier firm and, for two years, produced cars under the name of Michel Irat, his son, before amalgamating them into the Georges Irat company. This is one of them.

We have a winner! Well done apparently it's a Michel Irat Van, 10 Brown Autoshite Stars for you sir.

The above link is of the actual Van.

Darlington has a steam loco rushing out of a grassy bank, loco made of house bricks!

Dunno if it was ever wood fuelled......
