Land rover series steering box

This bastard car hates me. I've discovered one of the mounting lugs is knackered.

 

I can see the following options:

 

Say sod it, 3 other mounting bolts.

Attack casing with mig and try to build it back up. But aluminium n pretty corroded.

I've got another one with perfect casing, but fucked splines on steering wheel end due to being out in the rain for decades. I'm assuming they will explode into lots of little bits if I take it apart to do 2 into 1.

Spunk £350 on a new one.

My 2a was like that for donkeys. OK until it's spotted at MOT time I guess.

Where are you in the world I am sure we could rustle up a spare.

Option a - and hide with grease or similar from MOT man.

Autoshite option is as above.

 

I'd take the spare box apart and see if I could make sense of the way it works and put it back together correctly. If so, I would make a good one out of the two.
