Channel Island Chod: Mystery old yad

Wow a fellow shite enthusiast from the same fair isle, many of the crappers you've taken pics of are either cars that I've seen many times before or have actually driven, the old mk1 white Renault 5-my mate owns it and offered to swap it or sell it for next to nothing-6 years ago it looked mint but now its a bit...shite. the bronze Merc G-wagen we did some work on at the garage (smelt of shite I remember) and the green Renault 4 is just brilliantly shite to drive what with a weird column gearshift. The Citroen Visa is owned by a local mechanic who is well known locally for hillclimbing his mad 7 litre jag e-type but everytime I bump into him he's sat in his Visa-he really loves that thing-literally. My own shite consists of a 4.5 Rover SD1 (still classed as shite as every panel is either rotten or dented) a near minty SD1 2600 (shite because its not a vee eight) and a clean BMW e28 525i (the last two need to go!) I shall post up some pics of some more of Jersey's Jewels in honour of your fine work-and to any of the chaps on the mainland reading-I doubt you will ever see so much shite per square mile (vergee?) as you will in the shite capital of Jersey and the mileage is usually low too, I know of 4 abandoned BMW 6 series here amongst its many other hidden gems but the main problem is Jersey people never want to let go of any old shite the answer is always the same-"No its not for sale I'm going to restore it" type of thing but they never do. I weep I really do.

Hello Mr (Mrs?) Shite Meister, you win the prize for most frequent use of the word "shite", you even manage to sneak it into your username and signature. Well done! As a reward I present you another small selection of random recyclable metal.

Few of these still around. Should appeal to you, Mr Regie Ritmo?

Another one visible here, this scene was depicted in 55bloke's thread from 2006 and is in fact an impound yard for abandoned vehicles left on public housing estates.

More stupendous Channel Islands shiteings  Agreed, the pranged metroids days are numbered, see the rusty rad water stains down the valance panel and the rust coloured stain on the tarmac below  Piss tarp challenge, could it be a MK1 Fester  A special edition model by the looks of the funky stripes, was it called 'Festival' :?: Splendid Pikey Dodge Commando by the way :D

Is that Sierra covered in bird crap? That final photo of the compound....over here I suppose those cars would just be crushed?....... :?

Thats certainly a Fiesta Festival in the CTP....you did know that already surely?Looks a state unfortunately... :(

Some more fantastic pics, the Alfa 75-was just thinking about that yesterday, I used to work at the Alfa dealership and the owner brought it in and spent quite alot of muller on work-and this was in the last two years or so, nice to know someone still looks after the tat. Ah AllegroLand!! If you look just ahead of the Astra Estate you will see just a tiny bit of a tail-light and body of a BMW six series, there are two there-another is in front of that but not visible in this pic. The proprietor of AllegroLand is a strange fish, won't sell anything at all and talks like Frank Butcher. Has some amazing hulks of tat usually with trees growing out of them and is under the illusion that an Allegro with a tree growing out of the roof makes it a rare and sought after classic. Rant over! Indeed :P it doesn't look entirely untidy but certainly needing work, a strange thing to keep under a tarp all the same.

A few more from recent weeks. Shite spotting has been severely curtailed by wintry weather. This small selection contains a few hunnies that I've already snapped earlier in the year. HOPE U LIKE

Posted Image

Disappointingly not a Sao Penza, but I know some of you will approve

Posted Image

Fibreglass fun! Two of these just imported from Belgium by the same (presumably crazy) guy

Posted Image

Not shite, but remarkably original-looking - a rare sight now

Posted Image

Someone I know owns this and various other stuff. Just visible are two Jugulars, a tin-top E-type and a mkII

Posted Image

I probably don't photograph Scimitars as much as I should, this one looks quite pretty though is apparently fairly knackered

Posted Image

Bin lorry shite. Don't think this is all that common a model, whatever it is?

Posted Image

SOOTY VAN, 1987 model apparently.

Posted Image

Attrition rate of mk1 Fiestas has been particularly huge on Jersey, few now left from many thousands registered here.

Just wondering, has the local council named their shiny new sports centre or somesuch after a forgotted French saloon... Le Fregate?

I shall be starting a petition to get something around these parts named The Tagora Centre I thinks....

Pant! Thats gorjus!
Bloody lovely! an early model with chrome trimage and the 850 'boss' motor 8) I'd love to own that!

Those Manta As really are beautiful cars, aren't they? Thougt so right from day 1, but with the passage of time they seem to get even lovlier. Surely one of the best looking mass-market cars ever?

La Fregate is in fact a seaside cafe constructed to resemble an upturned boat :? the bin wagon is in fact a Terberg, model TS1000 according to the door badging.

So I thought I'd cast an eye back over all the shite of the last year and provide an update on what's no longer gracing Jersey's roads and driveways:

The following all scrapped

Posted Image

323, but plenty others still around so that's ok then.

Posted Image

Sherpa. The Landy next to it has passed to one of my mates and causes me much amusement everytime I look at its bulkhead

Posted Image

Golf diesel. Shame

Posted Image

Probably the last mk1 Renner 5 in regular use

Posted Image

Carina II, the reg number has been re-issued to a black Focus.

Posted Image

323 estate, the plates have now been transferred to something else too.

Posted Image

Audi 80

Posted Image

Ford Festiva, was this the only one on the island? Possibly but not probably

Posted Image

The lovely old Datsun on page 4 of this thread has also now apparently been crushed, what a waste.

Probably be gone by the end of this month

Posted Image

This old mk1 Transit was last seen in a nearby abandoned vehicles pound

Posted Image

The church on whose property this Sierra's been dumped have recently given notice in the local rag that it'll be disposed of if not claimed forthwith

Off to pastures new

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Not all old island shite is thrown away - some people actually export vehicles too

Mistaken identity?

Posted Image

I saw a Clio bearing this J-number on the same day as this Mazda, a problem that occurs from time to time when reg marks are re-issued. Possible that someone's transferred another number onto the 323 but not actually physically changed the plates yet, but I hope the car's not being used or the wrong person's gonna get parking fines etc

Plenty more tat to show y'all, but I'm trying to curb my habit of posting nothing for ages then dozens of pics all at once, so I'll attempt to spread the latest spots throughout January.

Posted

Always interesting to go through your pictures. Shame to see so many interesting characterful vehicles scrapped too. Is there any logic to Jersey registrations, or are they just a random series of numbers?

Posted

No real logic as such, only that back in the year dot they started at J1 and increased from there. In the old days vehicles had to be taxed every January and if this wasn't done the registration would be cancelled then re-issued to another vehicle the next year. However since 1994 there has been no annual tax and although numbers are still recycled this does rely on owners telling the authorities when a vehicle is broken up or shipped out of the island. The latest hire cars here are registered J112200 upwards; thankfully there's very much fewer than 112200 vehicles clogging up the roads. In the course of researching the origins of my Fiesta I discovered that most J-numbers in the range J70000-71000 had been allocated to a different vehicle every year between 1985 and 1993 (mainly summer rental cars). Incidentally until very recently I believe there had only ever been one J1, a De Dion Bouton which was in the custody of a friend's father; this however was subsequently exported and the number is now on a Silver Ghost.Regarding the Ford Festiva above, there have been at least three registered in Jersey. These things are Korean-built.

Ahhhhhhh I'm lovin that black sherpa on the Rover P6 wheel trims. I work with the son of the (ex)owner of the Datsun Estate-I think he said he had it from either new or near new and I remember seeing it being used as a taxi as recent as a couple of years ago! Looooverly old shite-char-a-banc I always wanted to get a ride in the Mk2 Granada Taxi that was in use till about 7 years ago.The renner 5 was in a bit of a state-every panel was quite rusty although it appears to be ok from the pics, the last owner (a mate) gave it to his old man who gave it to the Fire Brigade I belive, so it made its final journey to the scrapyard as a cabriolet....or in about 14 pieces.I worked in the local Renault Dealership untill last year and served the chap who owns that fantastic Renner 4-its nice to know that most of the bits are still available from Renault too.Cherio.

Good few of these around, unfortunately most (including this) operated by a cowboy outfit that's just been busted for £7500 over pisspoor maintenance

Vehicles of this size are rare and strictly controlled by permit

Don't think I've posted this before

Modern Acty

Pramshite!

Posted

At the risk of appearing a little odd, I love those old-style prams! Hate the current "buggy" things that look as if they weigh about half a ton, with wheels that look like they belong on a 4 x 4!

Posted

Pramwatch : looks like a Silver Cross.Neat documentation! Interesting to see the Acty van too, wonder how that ended up on the island. Those rear lamps have a touch of 70's to them.

Posted

Is that spacehoppershite under the pram? Looks like a Woolworths:)
