Nigel don't worry, your name has been noted a long time ago regarding R12s, but the pick up has drained a lot more of my finances that initially anticipated.

I'm looking to move house this year, so with that in mind I'm hoping to get something with a bit of land for me to have ample space for new projects, either that or get a small flat in Central London which will not be fun but needs must. :(

£5000 is nonsense, I dont know what nick its in but it doesnt look like a concours contender, I would suggest £1000 or so assuming its MOT'd and in reasonable nick generally.

Honestly, had she been a bloke I would have told him to do one, I felt like the granny was trying to rob me :)))

I can't afford it anyways, she's got my details in case she reconsiders but £5000 nearly made me cry :)

All,

Please bear with me, after one too many drinks last night with a friend of mine, we've decided to look at potentially buy a restoration project and doing it up together. By doing it up together, I mean splitting the costs fifty fifty. The car we have in mind is an early Jaguar E-type. I know, Dacia Shifterossa to an E-type, couldn't think of a further leap forward but it's a car we both love. He's already got a few toys and would see this as a bit of fun, I would see it as an investment and maybe make a few quid if we sell it in a few years.

Either way, if any of you have any leads on an early Jag E type (ideally series 1) I would kindly appreciate it and there may well be a finders fee in there for you. It's condition makes no difference to us as long as it's got matching numbers.

Thought I'd share this, you never know, maybe one of you has one locked up in a barn somewhere or at least knows of one.

More progress on the Dacia next week, Danut rang yesterday and was incredibily apologetic that no further progress has been made, he was on holiday and didn't want anyone touching the car unless he was present to check on quality of works. I guess I can't blame him for that :)

I have a very early fixed head. Sadly, I'm not permitted to sell it ( SWMBOs orders) even though my back won't permit me to drive it..

Good luck with the hunt.mi'll be interested to see how easily you find one!

Even a royally farked series 1 will be mega coin. GLWTH though

Finding an early S1 E-Type will certainly be a challenge. Even shitboxes are attracting ludicrous barn find tax. Just get a JPR Wildcat instead, and give it the same side stripes as the Dacia. Sorted.

GT6's look a little bit like E types that are a bit further away. If it is night time and you have accidentally taken someone else's prescription medicine after two bottles of claret......

Mr Wobblers Wildcat idea is a good one though. Or if it has to be a Jag there are bargainous XJS's around. I do fear that even a barn find series 1 is going to be the price of a small house. I just had a look at the Bay and the prices are astronomical.

Agree it's a great way to make a small fortune but I rather fear you will need to start off with a large one......

All, the R12 was manual, 4 speed box. I sat in it but didn't take any pics I'm afraid.

I can't afford it so might as well let you all know, the elderly lady that owns it is looking to sell.......she want WAIT FOR IT!!!!!!!

Offer OVER £5000 for it, as she's had a number of people wanting to buy it off her. Not being funny, I'd love to own it and it would go well next to my Shifterossa but £5000 is way way WAY more than I would expect to pay. Am I being completely unrealistic here or is the price astronomically high? Opinions please?!

This lady has probably had some car enthusiasts telling her how nice it is and asking is she wants to sell it (prob hoping it'll be £50 or something) and assumed it's worth a mint. A classic case of someone assuming interest=worth a fortune.

£5,000 is absolutely ridiculous.

There was a chocolate brown Talbot Alpine advertised recently. Some clever person advised her it was worth £3000.

No MOT not on road for ages, needed welding etc.

We were offering £300. She got upset and scrapped it!

Was her deceased mums and she wanted it to go to a good home! Until it wasn't worth thousands. Fucking nut job.

Rest assured, whatever happens that lady will never see £5000 of me. Some kind of reputable renault dealer had shown a keen interest in it she said........makes no difference in my mind, plus it needs a complete respray etc but you never know, she might get pulled over by a Lambo with Arab plates, get given a load of cash for it, I've heard of weird things like that happening in london. £1million and they can have my Dacia :))))))

£1million for the Shifter?

I would have thought you would want to cover your costs before selling!

I'm willing to make a loss, as long as i can recoup "some" of my costs, the £1 million will do :)))))

man, I'm in love with the 3-stud Weller 8 spokes.

Just read the lot making me late for work. Had no idea they were still importing these things in the 1990s!

Posted

Oh no, the steering wheel is off a clio I think, just to help move the car around ....... Don't worry that's not staying :-)

Et voilà :)))

Today they're going to start it up, fingers crossed it starts although Danut has reassured me it will start first time, guess we will have to wait and see.

What sort of rustproofing has Danut used?

Posted

Ohhhhh I'm afraid I wouldn't know the exact make, he's assured me there are a number of coats followed by the red top coat. The rear subframe, springs etc have been chemically treated and awaiting black paint once they review the running gear, change the bearings, check the diff and replace the oil.

Posted

The battery tray etc are all going to be cleaned/sand blasted/zinc plated etc they're on the car to allow them to start and check it all, then it makes its way to Danut's private garage for detailing works :)

Can I upload a video? The engine is in and it was stared today for the first time......got a video of it.....

If you get a Renault 12, or a Denem, will you put the correct grill back on the Shifterossa?
