Rover MG forums?

I need to start selling my diagnostic tools (or will in a month or so) and the easiest place to market these things is on enthusiast forums.

There are two problems:-

1. Things are quite fragmented with lots of model specific forums.

2. Many of the forums will not let you sell anything as they want you to have a "trader" account and it can be quite expensive.

So far this is what I have found:-

http://www.mgfregister.org

They have been great and seem happy for me to do what I want on there, so I will.

http://forums.mg-rover.org

This forum seems to be huge and would be the obvious one to go for but they want £200 per year which is off putting.

http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/forum

This seems the biggest 75 forum but they want £100 per year.

http://forums.75-zt.com

New forum which got a mention in Practical Classics this month.  Free for traders so a no brainer to be on there I think.

http://www.rovertech.net/forum

Only want £10 per year but I'm not sure how many members they get.  Probably worth it as an alternative to mg-rover.org

Am I missing anything?

There's AROnline, that has a forum but it's pretty quiet.

There's their Facebook page as well but be prepared for the hoards of Triplex lickers.

Yep. Mark M had a 6, and there's a young fella with a very troublesome 3 at the moment. I think someone else has one as well.

Lord Sward, sometime contributor here, would be able to tell you the full S.P.

Short version is: a few of them have been on Longbridge tours, and the place is a fucking joke. A bad one at that.

I use the 75 and ZT forum and its pretty good. I'll be interested in your tool once its available.

Has Mark still got the 6? He used to be on AR a lot but has vanished.

I don't think he has it anymore.

It came with his job and so he had to get rid of it when he moved on.

I was on the MG-Rover.org forums for a long time when I had my TF and the F/TF section was very good with lots of friendly people.

Can't comment on the rest of the forum as I never really went out of that section.

It's full of fucking nutcases now.

The moderation is a bit, umm, North Korean.

You're very welcome to advertise FOC on  www.rover800.info/forum  - there are quite a few suitable vehicles in use by owners on there.

By the way, does it have any application for late model Discovery 2s (with Bosch engine management)?

Is Macdroitwich still going?

Has anyone on there actually bought an MG though?

How did I miss this crack-pot post?

Yes sadly, more mOwners on MacDummywich than on any other forum.  Hence why they got Official* status while the pretend 6-3-5 register got bladdered by MG.

There just seems to be a lot of talk about them but no one seems to own one, which is pretty understandable given the numbers they sold.

Phoenix have just opened an mg dealership in paisley it'll be interesting to see how they get on.

If you can wade through the bullshit, theres a lot of solid SAICMGUK 'chat' on there.

Did you know for example if you used that special 99RON Tesco fuel which is used to sponsor the BTCC MG6 then your MG6 won't start on a morning?

Neither will a diesel-engined LDV camper.

The Facebook page AROnline tells me all I need to know about new MG owners and their overbearing desire to try and convince everyone how great their cars are when in reality they are still trying to convince themselves.

I'm having an MG6 as soon as they drop into my sweetie wrappers price band, which going by current depreciation won't be long.

I'll have an MG3 when they dip into three figures.

Expect a collection thread next week.

I'll soon have an MG6 as a company car of sorts.

That'll be fun*.

A few years ago this was the case with Skoda owners, I'm pretty sure that's why they used to do so well in JD Power surveys etc. it was like being seen out with an ugly girl by your mates, you'd have to tell them straight away how she was dirtier and more of a laugh than the really fit looking bird who wouldn't give you the time of day anyway.

These days everyone just accepts them as another VAG appliance and the owners, or more likely, drivers, care no more or less than if it was a VW,Toyota or Vauxhall.

In the interests of political correctness,I must state that I'm sure that girls seen with Skoda and MG6 driving men would probably tell their mates he had a 12" tongue and could breathe through his ears too.

What have you done to deserve that? Do keep us posted with the FNU.

In answer to the question in the first post, it would be worth hitting up a few of the pages for individual models on Facebook as well as the forums.
