James Mays Cars of the People

Yes I watched, enjoyed it all up to the end but it was inevitable considering the producers are the Top-Gear twats. What I would have liked to have seen is their punctured Range Rover descended upon suddenly by a vigilante mad mob wielding sledge-hammers before screeching off in a Marina.

Yeah I saw it, was ok up until the Riva got destroyed. That Prora Nazi holiday camp was interesting though, had to look it up on Wikipedia afterwards.

Was a very enjoyable programme. That 124 was stunning too 8)

I didn't have a problem with the ending as it was done in homage to the original press launch of the 124 and as May said, it's what Oscar Montabone would have wanted... :-) :-)

I found it quite informative and good to watch - though I don't like seeing rare cars getting smashed up.

May has lost my respect as a motoring TV presenter with such an act of wanton destruction. I do not mind him pointing out the faults of cars and even ridiculing them a bit but I always thought May was above this kind of “how many viewers can we get at any cost act†but obviously not. Shame I enjoyed the rest of the program but will be worried watching the next episode what mindless act he is going to commit just to see if he can attract a few more viewers.

Rare did you listen to what james may said then?

The car they droped was well striped, when that dainty toy chopper picked it up you could see through the back axle.

The Riva that hit the deck (NOT the same one he drove at the Zil plant - that number plate was risible!) was as rotten as fuck...

James May is the presenter, not the producer or director.

So no influence on content?

Even if it was an unsavable car I do not want to see destruction for the sake of it, it added nothing to what was actually a very good program.

On this very forum I have heard people say just scrap it for some 90s cars which have failed to sell,

If a 99 lada gets the bullet then its the end of the word. Does not compute.

I enjoyed the whole program. going into the nazi history of the beetle and the kdf pontins was an excellent touch. I don't have a problem with lada destruction either, as I've owned one.

It was refreshing to hear a mainstream prog being so outwardly scathing of the VW. Did he actually mention the KdF/Beetle was a stolen design and that it was so crap, originally, engineers spent their whole time trying to eradicate all the faults? I'll have to record it from iplayer, I missed a few chunks last night.

Having driven a Lada once (for about 20 minutes), I shouldn't have been bothered by seeing one destroyed. Yet I think dropping a car from a great height, simply because it was possible, reduced the quality of what was generally a far higher than average car programme.

This http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0240c55 is the trailer - it appears there is more violence to come. It doesn't matter how much he might eulogise with his well-crafted delivery, many will watch the pictures and remember little else, creating the idea that if something is cheap to buy, it is of little value and there is nothing wrong with destroying it.

A lot of informative stuff about the history of the cars. A lot I didn't know, so fair play in that respect. Just seemed like a good production punctuated by a bad one IMHO.

Almost like Top Gear got hold of a good documentary and thought, "hang on, that needs some stuff blowing up, or being dropped from a helicopter...... Woohoo.... Lets be childish" kind of thing. Added nothing of value to an otherwise interesting programme.

Mr May did ok as the presenter, but the TG influence and 'sound like Clarkson' showed through quite a lot.

7/10.

The rangerover flat tyre incident had staged topgear element written all over it, other than that it seemed mildly entertaining. Why did they bother trying to pretend the lada they had dropped was the one he was driving? It was rhd for a start...

You can tell it's Top Gear by the circular razor edge logo, and each episode will end on cars being destroyed, just like a Cuntson DVD. Shame, because most of the show was good, until the pointless Lada destruction

Can people please stop whining about the Lada getting destroyed? If it offends you that much, refuse to pay your license fee and \ or don't watch it.

Just out of interest like, how much would it cost to start up a new channel on Sky.....?

Maybe called..... Errr, dunno. How about

'Autoshite. Drive it. Live it'

or summat.

If we all chipped in a quid or so it might* work.

Who would you have as a presenter?

(Opens popcorn, sits back to watch......)

Bob - this is why YouTube exists.

Yes yes....

Was just wondering who, on here, would front said fantasy show. Should it ever exist. Which it wont.

I'm SAG-AFTA affiliated. AS couldn't afford me.

Tart/Diva

.. Lol!

Listening again to some of the show, May even appears to have taken on the sound and inflections of Clarkson.

Quite so....

The " A Trabant is actually made from pants" comment sounded exactly like C.

As did others TBH.

I have a sneaky feeling this was actually written for Clarkson, but he couldn't be bothered to do it, and as may wasn't doing another series of 'James & Oz get pissed', he was given it.

I didn’t even know about this programme and was blissfully watching a DVD of ‘The Big Lebowski’ while you lot were getting worked up about another old motor getting trashed by the top gear crew.
