The Rise and Fall of Chod

Mk3 Escorts are definitely on the way up, someone paid £2.5k for a very similar one to mine recently.

Indeed they are. Which means I am reluctant to part with mine, despite not really being into it, anymore.

Reckon it can stay in storage and enjoy the occasional blast and maybe I will punt it on in a year or two.

I a Saab enthusiast and the values of (my Favourite) 9000s is nothing short of criminal! C900 aside all classic Saabs is ridiculous when compared with other marques.

a friend of mine bought an 89' Nissan Bluebird from a guy in Sunderland for around £400

 Who could that be?!

I've had my eye on Dolomite values for a while, I think they've gone up the past year for some reason(?). People are starting to ask £1k+ for 1300s...

Rover 75's are crazy cheap, especially the MG versions which rarely break a couple of grand for the very best. Currently owned by a few enthusiasts and a lot of mingebags, in ten years time the mingebags would have blown theirs up leaving us with a handful in the hands of true enthusiasts. Buy one, put it in dry storage, retrieve in ten years for OMG PROFIT

Apart from the Kettle threat which can be solved with myriad fixes (some of which may or may not work depending on who you ask) they are very good looking cars and don't seem to suffer from rust. I can imagine a diesel estate to be a fine way to trundle around for peanuts.

Have you seen the prices of MGF's as well? And MX5's? Both are ridiculously low

All of my shite is priceworthless.

EFA In the sense that whatever price you put on it people want it for less

I agree. Sprints are going for 7.5k, 1850s up to 5k. Out of all cars I've owned my dolomite has never had so much interest and it's not a top notch one at all. Almost every time it is parked up a couple of blokes in their 40s are looking around it. Were these lots of people's first cars? Conversely the genuinely immaculate e21 I had garnered no interest at all and it was in amazing condition. Zero nostalgia value and scarcity on the road at the time depresses value today

305 - nuclear waste. Weigh in money? Not for sale. Good tyres.

460 - worthless other than for its engine. 99% not for sale

Amazon - least valuable 120 series. Not for sale.

C4 - daily, not for sale. Worthless as 'not a Golf'.

Charade - not worth a lot. Probably for sale if enough money was offered.

Isuzu NOT SCIROCCO DLEO-RIAN WEDGESHAPE PININFARINA FACEBOOK GROUP - probably an IPTOC trade-in, not for sale.

I remember that one on KGF (or at least a post saying it was) as it was really no nicer than mine that I struggled to get £200 for!

I just managed to clear £300 for the perfectly decent one that I had

Posted

Allegro, got it for nothing, did the bare minimum to get it on the road then sold it for £750, had quite a bit of interest in it...

Proton, got it for £100, think I could probably sell it for £300 but I'm going to keep it for a while as I quite like it. Carlton got it for £250, have done very little to it and it went through an mot easily, I think i could get £500 for it. Volvo 340, got it for £500, no-one would want to buy it now. The Volvo 360. got it for £450 and think I could get £600.

I think I'm doing ok at getting them for cheap and don't think my values are way over the top...

I think I know what you mean about that. I am still surprised by the amount of attention my Sierra gets. Everyone wants to talk about it. Just the other day a woman I work with - probably in her mid 50s - saw me parking up and she was 'I love your car - we had one for years and I cried when they took it away'. I just can't picture many people saying that about an E30 325i or some such which would have been much more of status symbol back then!

For some reason I've had loads of people comment favourably on my ratty C900 whilst the poor old XM only gets me looks of pity and contempt...
