Plz to diagnose my brake problem

Car that hates me is a disco 2 td5.

Driving along, went for the brake and the pedal sinks massively, car pulls to right. Proper shat myself. Tried brake again and it's perfectly normal. 100 yards further along, same thing happens. It then appears perfectly fine for the (slow careful) 1 mile drive to my mechanics where I've dumped it.

Can see this being £££bumrape changing every component for the fun of it.

Master cylinder would be my first guess, only intermittently operating both brake circuits. Fluid ok?

Are both sections of the master cylinder reservoir full? Sounds like 'one circuit' is down.

Look for a wet inner tyre....

It's got a full brake reservoir. Suppose it could be a bad master cylinder seal?

Clutch slave cylinder leaking and drained the reservoir? Should have brought a warning up but you never know on a lr.

That's assuming it shares it's reservoir with the brakes , can't remember if a disco 2 does or not

Plus one on master cylinder. If so check if it shares the part with something else, being a Land Rover it probably shares the part with a tractor and may be much cheaper in a box marked Massey Ferguson for example

Are you SURE both sides of the master cylinder are full/level? It can often look that way -but there will be a clear central divider -it'll wager one side is low/empty.

If it IS full you've NOT got a leak, which are 90% of all problems.

In which case its servo, master cylinder or front caliper. But I'll wager one side IS low.

Not master cylinder, or a leak anywhere :(

Looks like it's what's scientifically described as "something fucked in the ABS block thingy".

There are switches in it that are supposed to tell the brainz if you're breaking lightly, or more heavily. Have had box of tricks plugged into it, and mine goes from not braking to facking hell stood on the anchors, with an occasional flicker signal of light braking. So the brainz are getting shit signals, and are then going batshit crazy and trying to kill me.

Have ordered a 'repair kit'. Why you can't rip all the abs out I dunno. Would solve a few problems.
