Mercedes C180 almost for sale

If everything goes to plan, on Saturday I will be buying a car (from a member of this forum) to replace one I really do not want to sell, but which my company won't let me use for business due to its age. This will be the first opportunity anyone has had since this car was new to buy it (unless you are a family member).

I'll post full details up if and when the deal is done, but I want around £750 and it needs absolutely nothing doing to it, as I've spent ££££s servicing and replacing bits. I'll post it here first in the hope this forum is what it used to be (before I joined). I'm in Crewe, and could pick any interested parties up from Crewe train station.

All you get at the moment is one photo:

I saw a very clean L plate C200 in traffic yesterday. A handsome car. Is it really 21 years since they were launched? I believe these were the first cars with a rear light that wrapped around the top of the rear wing.

Yes. My brother's having it. (Not that brother, another one.)

At Chez_Kru_Joe this afternoon:

The awfully nice Mr C1am came up for the half-heartedly advertised ex-Ma-KJ chariot, and instead of wasting actual money on a train ticket, he brought us this at a give-away price.

These are his pics from last week.

It still looks the same.

I had a leisurely drive back, but it steers like its on rails. Not a patch on the Merc for refinement but didn't expect it to be. Thanks again KruJoe for showing me the "collection" - the Polonez is great!

It's a completely different animal!

This evening I put Pops_KJ and Mrs_KJ in the Baby Benz and went for a spin* around our local (private) road test triangle. It's silent as a fish, but doesn't pull like a great. Progress could best be described as 'sedate'.

The last time I did this little circuit, it was with Zippy as he tried out Pop's old Forrester Turbo that he ended up buying, and we could have been 'round three times in the STurbo in the same 15 mins it took us today!

This MB is definitely designed for refined wafting, and it feels like a much bigger car. Which is nice.

Aye, there's worse places to be :)

Plans for the C180:

My Half-brother Sam and his family live in NZ (Wanganui), but come across every year or two for a few months. They're in Germany just now, arriving here in a couple weeks. Normally they borrow or hire a motor, but this is even cheaper than extending someone else's insurance policy to cover them, so even if they give it away when they leave in September, they've not lost out. It's in his name and he'll pay my folks for it when they land, so I don't know its eventual fate; if you behave yourselves, it may even end up back on offer here for peanuts. Time will tell.

The C180 looks really very nice. Very straight and clean. I like the clean-cut earlier C-Klasses rather than the later ones.

I had a C280. Bugger me, it didn't half jog on.

Sold it to a work colleague. He had a bit of a problem with the 'box, so he scrapped it. Every bit as clean as this one.

That's a shame.

I said to my old man on our little trip that it'd be an epic machine if it were 2.5 or 3 litre. (Excuse my ignorance, I don't know the W202 engine range very well!)
