Car shows?

There's sod all on the Internet about the show. It's free to walk in as it's massive with no fence. I thought I had read it was £3 to "show" your car but I haven't pre registered.

Last time I want 2 years ago cars were being let In at all times so that can all have paid in advance.

And someone was scaring folks away wearing shorts I heard mate :P

Luckily, I didn't get arrested.

You had Triggs to distract everyone mate LOL, and what about that long grass, lack of shitters and only one burger van which was quite conveniently owned by the show organizer?

The thing to remember in the classic car world is that you are dealing with nutters, pure and simple. Anything goes. As for myself, I just turn up in any old crock of shit I happen to have roadworthy at the time... I have attended shows before with a hole in the front wing where the filler has broken. Do I care? Well, it would be nice to have things ship shape and Bristol fashion, but it doesn't always work like that. The main thing is to enjoy yourself, above all else.

4pm onwards very good show will be in either my yellow or blue mk3 2dr.

I will need to check on the sodding Tour de France road closures to see if i can come along.

Quite a few shows now seem to be putting a requirement in where you can't leave before 5

I ended up getting arrested at our local show earlier this year after a heated discussion with some reflective jacketed twat who reckoned he was a copper.

I can understand they don't want all the cars leaving too early when people have paid to see them but some organisers get really heavy about it.

I have just had to ring up to book in for a show on sunday apparently it is all down to insurance that they need you to pre-book now. The vehicles leaving early thing is also an insurance related rule. Due to the rise in liability claims everyone now covers their own arse which spoils it for everyone really

Quite. I like all cars, I can appreciate a concours example but I get just as much pleasure from see a rolling resto or a battle scarred daily driver.

And I can't remember who said they went to a show and saw Vectras there? If I'd traveled to a show expecting to see classics and was greeted with a collection Gareth Cheeseman repmobiles, I'd be pissed off. But there was a really tidy MK1 Mondeo Ghia (with the bumpers intact  ) at a show I went to recently. Most people were ignoring it. But there was a 12 year old kid who was fascinated with it, because he'd never seen one before!

Once my generation and below have more spare cash we'll probably see more and more stuff like that at shows...which is good because everything becomes interesting once it's old enough, and the preservation and appreciation of any car, to me at least, is a good thing.

This concludes today's lecture

Thornes Park is in Yorkshire. "Ey up, fluffy whiskers."Summary: No-one cares about insurance.

It's an excuse to eat some terrible donuts in reasonable* weather, stare at the world's most terrifying ice cream van and speak to Hirst. I cannot see a downside.

I went tonight. There were a lot of cars but not very organised j st sort of parked in a filed. There were some stuff lined up but most were just stuck anywhere (like an R4 van next to the tractors on its own) was still good though and I took exactly zero pictures :-)

been even better if all the lets panic & go home my cars getting wet poofters hadn't left 6ish.

I'm going to the West Coast Rally next weekend in my 2003 car as it specifically said it welcomed modern cars aswell as old ones, together with trucks, buses and the like.

I'm sure we will all just jolly well rub along with no shit-the-bed stuff about age.

I was going to go leaving Bradford at about 6pm but it was pissing down here and the thought of traipsing round a field in the rain with the missus complaining her hair is getting wet etc made me stay at home and drink cans of beer and watch shit on the telly instead.

Rain, snow, hail or sun anything and everything would make me leave Bradford

Now that's the sort I don't mind too much; I hate it when they are all grouped together "Oooh look a red MGB next to another red MGB and another, oh that's a GT" etc..

I much prefer the random ones where you get a proper Bugatti T35 shoved next to a Morris Minor and a Phantom V next to a Metro, which is next to a couple of old motorbikes and some phut-phut oil engines; where the auto jumble is a collection of old bits on the floor, from peoples' sheds. And most importantly a beer tent.

Last saw one like this a couple of years back, up in Gloucestershire, it seems like you only get them now in a "Midsomer Murders" type village.

Hmmm... Car Shows, these days they are usually brimming with modern crap, Mini shows that are full of BMW's ( most classic Mini owners hate them ) and they tend to congregate away from the main show area.

One of the worst around this parish ( Nottinghamshire ) is the 1st and 3rd Wednesday evening meet at the Griffins Head pub in Papplewick, It used to be full of classic stuff 'of a suitable ' age... but is getting to be a place for the VW 'Scene' wankers, and Modern 'Carlos Fandango ' crowd.

Often the car park is more interesting than the show field.

It's not that I want stuff lined up in ranks it's just I would have all the makes sort of together. As in I was in between an Austin metropolitan and a hotrod right behind a collection of Aston Martins.

I would have liked to be with the big group of ford's that turned up later especially as there were only 4 fiestas there.

Other thing was all the signs said cars 25 or older but there was tons of newer stuff

Hi There, I am new to posting to this site but I have been a long time lurker. I am one of the organisers of the Thornes Park show, there are 4 of us all living in Wakefield, 3 of us are pensioners. We are not a professional show organising outfit we just do this one show, although we have many years of experience of organising classic car shows for other Yorkshire based car clubs.

The idea is to put on a classic vehicle show in Wakefield and any proceeds should there be any are donated to charities such as Wakefield Hospice, Yorkshire Air ambulance, British Heart Foundation to name a few.

All the vehicles that are pre booked are parked up in classes which are mainly based on age with separate classes for Sports cars, American cars, light commercials, heavy commercials, Buses, motorcycles, tractors and military vehicles, we know how many of these to expect and can mark out a space to suit. All the cars that have not pre booked and turn up on the night are just parked in rows as they arrive, so yes there is a random mix, we do not know what / how many will turn up and at what time so it would be impossible to sort in to groups based on make.

The 25 year rule is new for this year and is because over the last couple of years we were starting to be inundated with modern cars like Audi RS4, Renault Clio Sport etc, which we felt should not be at a classic vehicle show, some did get in this year, but it is difficult to stop some people who are determined to park their car on the show field despite it being pointed out that their car is not a classic

New for this year is a website for this show, it is very much in its infancy and will be developed, we could do with some photos of previous years shows. If anyone has any we could use on our website it would be very much appreciated.

As for my autoshite credentials, my everyday car is a 14 year old Ford Mondeo MK2 with cracked front bumper, my classic is an A35 saloon I have owned for 34 years, I have 75% restored an Austin A35 van and I also own a 1989 Vauxhall Senator in AS spec - 2.5i engine, steel wheels and plastic trims and I live just around the corner of a local renowned cab firm

Hello! I know it might not sound like it but I appreciate the effort put in to having the show and being only the second time very been to and first I've taken a car to I found it all a bit confusing.

Admittedly I'm a bit thick but I found it really hard to find any details on the Internet and when I did it wasn't clear. There were also very few signs up around town.

No problem with the randomness as such as it's my fault for not prebooking just would have liked to be in a certain section or something.

I do think the 25 year old rule is a good idea (think 20 might be better) but I did get a funny look from the guy on the gate when I got there as he didn't think my car was old enough, it's 26

I didn't realise there was a 25 yr rule either but would have been okay in the Visa.

I have been to this show before and thought it was very good, I like the random order of the cars. Shame I was a wuss with the weather this year.

So there's another car show on Sunday at nostell priory. Had a look and again can't really find much on it other then it might be run by something called the fueled society and cost £10 to get in!!!

Did some digging and there other stuff and last year's pictures seem to be full of pineappled stuff, anyone know anything about it?
