I did contemplate buying a V6 Alfa GT once.  Now rather wishing I had.  Still, it's never too late and they're a bit of a bargain now...

The 1990s/2000s V6 GTVs are going up in price and getting to be about 4K now, so get a move on if you want one.  They have not been much Barried, unlike their cousins the Fiat Coupes.

^ Oo yes, loving the Heller kit.  At least it won't have rusty arches.

Nah man, the GTVs are much too cool for the likes of me.  I mean the GT - the 156-derived things with the podgy rump, like this one only cheaper:

The day-glo turmeric one on t'Bay looks smart, although you'd want to paint the sills black as it looks all bloaty and peculiar without the factory-fit tide mark:

$_12.JPG

You'd also want to see some evidence of metal in the sills, arches and door bottoms: I spy wob (though I'm not being sneery - mine is full of wob too).

It failed to get any bids with a £3250 start last time round, so they relisted it yesterday on a 5-dayer with no reserve and starting at 99p or something.  It's up to £1800 last I looked, which still sounds very bargainous for one owner, FSH and MOT until the winter.

Go on, you know you want to.

I imagine those old Webasto roofs are a PITA, in fact the inside of the car would probably stay dryer if you just left it open.

That has without doubt been painted, and probably filled in places, and appears to be sitting rather low at the back for one of these.

It sold via a classic car auction for £2300 about 3 weeks ago, this have a go dealer is just trying to make a quick buck, fair play but I cant see anyone being too happy paying much more than that for it.

I would also want to see just how much 'FSH' there is, as 'FSH' is a term loosely used by dealers, a few old MOTS and a receipt for a new battery in 1998 is not FSH.

The sunroof makes it worth 10K innit, because open Ferrari.   OK, so it lets in rain, wind, and any passing illegal immigrant falling from the wheel bay of a Heathrow inbound, but so what?

If I had a garage then yeah I would say, So what.

I dont have a garage and these cars leak badly enough without sunroofs, but I love the idea of an open webasto on a proper hot summers afternoon for extra V8 sound'ness.

Posted

^ Indeed.

Personally I think all sunroofs are the devil's work, and that goes double for convertibles.  A Webasto is the worst of both worlds.

But as you say, this being an SD1, the rain is going to come in through at least three other places too, so you might as well be hanged for a sheep as a lamb.

i sort of like it without the tide mark :smilie_auslachen:

..............i'll get my coat

If Autoshite Blue Plaque nominee David Bache put a tide mark there, ordinary mortals shouldn't remove it.

Posted

hmm. don't like the arse down stance. didn't these have those stupidly expensive nivomat self levellers?

Posted

They were optional I think. This one seems to look like it's squatting because it hasn't got the tide mark below the back bumper - stance is ok in the other pics in the ad.

Posted

The missing tide mark screams 'quick blow over' to me and the door bottoms look well wavy. Looks nice enough overall but i wouldn't pay lots for it, £1800 is probably z little more than I'd fancy paying.

Rover still where it was.  After a long hard day of telling knob gags in the Court of Appeal I then had work all night on some POS case that starts today, and was tempted to have a zizz in the Rovaaah, but resisted the urge, because it doesn't do to use another shiteist's car as a kip without asking first.  I may have a snooze behind the wheel while on the M40 home later on.   Can someone wake me up when I get to junction 5?  Yeah cheers yeah.

Just catching up with this story - it's ace.

And Woolarding for him, Didioning for her is definitely the way forward for all my shit heaps henceforth.

A simultaneous Woolard/Didion is a must for the allegro.

Forbearance appreciated, but permission granted. Let's hope it doesn't come to that, though.

If it rains, there's an en suite shower in the boot so you can freshen up. All mod cons, see.

Just dont arrive home at 6ish so I have to sit in the carnage!

Does the rover use too much fuel to get off at 6 and go up the hill then?

Trial adjourned for a day so Judge can read the thousands of pages of bollocks produced by the other side.  Therefore I have wafted home in velourishnous vee eight-y comfort.    The car was fine in hot and heavy London traffic.  A protest was going on in Whitehall, with heavy police presence, and the grey haired dude who was probably Silver Command for the gig had a good grin at the sight of an SD1 rolling past.

Here's a standing Didion, as opposed to a seated one, performed by a friend.

TODAY the Rover of borrowage is mostly going to ... Solihull.   Photo of car at its birthplace laters.

Next week, alas, I must say farewell to this lovely heap-o-luxe-o-smoothness.

Skizzer, does the fact that the 156 has actual handles on the front doors not assist your wife's views on the matter?

Excellent!  The Rover is clearly going to be a right handful when it comes home, as it has a much lovelier time going to exciting places with Uncle Breadvan.

Wife is still not convinced by the Alfa, but I'm working on it.

Damage Report, Captain: the speedo stopped working on the way home.  I will check whether this is a fuse issue, but I suspect the dreaded speedo cable of failure.  I iz know that 2500 RPM  = 70 MPH, so no wuzzies re speed cameras.
