Peugeot 806/7

Citroen C8

Fiat Ulysse

Thinking of chopping the dispatch in and SWMBO'd insists on a van-type vehicle but with six seats - and a step up from the Dispatch is one of these people carriers - you gain removable single seats for the loss of roof height - I can live with that, and she can too. But they're slightly different from the crude Dispatch so what should i be looking for - it'd ideally be an HDi 8v.

C8? RUN THE FUCK AWAY.

Utterly utterly shit. If you must, get a Synergie, they are still massively miserable, but at least they aren't prone to shitting cambelts.

Synergie is what I meant. I've had no real issues with the dispatch till now and it's clocked 195k miles. The above are just a dispatch with better seats and a carpet. I can live with that.

The alternatives are a vito or espace. And I'm not brave enough for an espace.

Why not fix the dispatch then?

I am expecting a lunched turbo and engine burning oil, as well as spilling it all over to be a little more expensive than buying another and stealing the good bits (wheels, tyres, exhaust, battery) then scrapping. I'll know fully Wednesday but expecting replacement to be a little more cost effective. There's less room in one of these to replace the turbo than there is an an XM to change the headgasket.

yes, it is the same - but I have a (broken) dispatch combi - it already has windows and six seats.

There's more electrics and slightly more comfort in a synergie/ulysse/806.

So, apart from cam belts what is wrong with the C8,807, ulysse?

Electrics that develop nightmare issues that can never be fixed. Or it'll be entirely reliable. There doesn't seem much middle ground. It surely can't be too much ballache to actually drop the engine out of the Dispatch and fix the problems though? Probably cheaper than buying another unknown people carrier.

^^^ Don't take it to kwik fit then!

Where's the fun in that though. This is Autoshite not somewhere sensible.

I've got a 807 had it 2 years now and love it, would definitely buy another, biggest problem for me is fuel economy I got the 2.2 diesel and only getting a average of 26 to the gallon( lots of small journeys ). Slidey doors are a massive bonus ( especially in windy weather, no kids letting go of your doors and buggering them up :) Loads of room . Had espaces and Galaxy's in the past but this is far better

LDV Pilot.

I had a Leyland by Austin Morris 240 - not having another!

Yeah, I pulled the engine on mine when the clutch went and did all the belts etc at the same time.

It wasn't too bad a job, long winded but reasonable.

Ah but you had access to a ramp (even if it did come down overnight). And yours was an agricultural 1.9. This is an hdi. I just know it's a pain.

Well, if you would listen to my advice, you wouldn't buy either of the following:

Peugeot 806/7

Citroen C8

Fiat Ulysse

Not because I couldn't even tell whether they are shit, or shite, but because they are the manifestation of signalling to the world that you have given up in life (note: an LDV Pilot wouldn't).

If people, who need a six seater, would ever listen to me, they'd all buy a Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon, or a 1974 Mercury Grand Marquis in vanilla yellow.

But since this is not coming to any fruition anyway, I suggest the following:

Now, why nobody ever listens to me, despite I'm always right, is a phenomenon, that will never cease to amaze me, but that's an entirely different story altogether.

Volvo 7 seater estate. It won't grenade itself.

I asked a similar question recently about an MPV for going to France. I've started looking at Nissan Elgrands, they look turbo comfy and appear to have no major issues at all! 3.2 diesel with a chain, common Nissan parts, low depreciation. Am I mental for considering these?

The0 netherbelt issue on the hdi is caused by a design flaw where rainwater is directed off the scuttle and onto the timing belt. The steel bands within the bolt rust and the best shirts itself somewhere round the 50k Wark rather than the 100k that Citroen say it should last to.

ABut. It doesn't end there. Because of the afore mention pain water problem the injectors rust into the head making removal nearly impossible. Making belt failure an engine write off situation rather than a new belt and new rocker gear.

Buy one and budget 400 for belts pump and tensioner if you get a garage to experience it or 50 if you do it yourself. Undo the engine mounts and pull the engine forwards in the bay and you can access the belts without having to be a pixie.

I'm typing all this on a stoma age phone with autocorrelation. Make me my post what you will

I have a fuck off estate car. It's an Xm. Nothing better for what I need!!! However, I have enjoyed the benefits of van ownership but with six seats.

Mrs mo won't drive an Xm. Too many pedals. She will drive a dispatch though and that means she'll drive the slightly posher synergie/806/Ulysse.

I shall do the requirements again.

Ability to carry 3/4 ton.

Capable of 20000 miles a year

Diesel

Economical

Something that will be abused and disposed of when dead.

Decent roof height

Road legal

I'd buy another combi but they're not common. I can use some bits as spares for new vehicle. I like the town ace but it needs work and is an automatic.

My experience of trying to get bits of old toyotas is it's a nightmare.
