Pillock Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 According to the Haynes BOL there's a perm live going to the door lock control unit on a brown plug, and another to the IR control box on a black plug.
The Moog Posted August 17, 2014 Author Posted August 17, 2014 I thought the same as you. One plug is feed from IR (which ihave tapped into with new box) and other plug is activated when key turns. Only other electrics are windows and feed for electric mirrors which are switched. Cheers. I think I am going to attempt the cig lighter. Central locking control unit is tucked in the dash and IR is rusted to buggery.
The Moog Posted August 17, 2014 Author Posted August 17, 2014 As a quick win for tomorrow I think might try this http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductMobileDisplay?catalogId=10151&storeId=10001&productId=191656&categoryId=255229&langId=-1
Noel Tidybeard Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 you need to look for the numbers not colours on the wires on a poojoe- so you need B151 or B152
forddeliveryboy Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Sort of related, an old Xantia's fans packed up yonks ago and it turned out to be an excess of dust in the housings. I ground off the rivets and removed them motors, blowing away all the muck. Once tacked back in with a little weld, they were fine. I agree, the wiring on these things is more complex than Saturn V. Probably easy to understand once you do, as with all things.
KruJoe Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Hey Moog, you're now in that there Lancashire with a vegetarian 405, right? We're just over the hill from you (30 mins?) and have a special offer on WVO. Will has surplus stock of 200 litres, make him an offer!
The Moog Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 Ok sort of reached an impasse. After taking 12v from lighter I then had to work out how to feed the drivers door. Originally I thought that I could feed two wires through the door grommet but that is a no go. Instead I stripped back the IR sensor in the roof to use the connections there. Issue I have got is that the new box sends out a 12v pulse to lock and unlock doors. I am using green and blue going from the box to the roof mounted sensor. System that is already in the 405 instead grounds it. So if I ground the feeds in IR sensor it will lock and unlock no problem Is there anyway to make these compatible? Am I being dense? I am at a point with half a car dismantled that I will do pretty much anything to get it working.
The Moog Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 Cheers Joe. Will drop him a pm once I get this finished.
The Moog Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 This currently how it is set up. I need to change it so that rather than sending 12v from remote unit, I need it to ground briefly. EDIT: Is it because I have got a complete kit? Therefore it will automatically be positive because it comes with all the actuators?
mat_the_cat Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Do I understand you right - you want to use the control box from the kit with the existing actuators? Something like this has the option of a negative or positive trigger, but the Chinglish instructions may not be immediately clear!http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kit-Car-Remote-Control-Central-Entry-Door-Lock-Locking/121408396049 Or, you could use a relay to switch the positive pulse to a negative one. Earth to terminal 30 and 85, pulsed positive to 85, and a pulsed negative will be present on terminal 87.
The Moog Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 I hadn't intended to but because I could run a cable through the door I have to tap into it. For £9 might as well buy a kit like that.
The Moog Posted August 26, 2014 Author Posted August 26, 2014 Kit bought and now fitted. Took a while especially with chinglish instructions. Took the positive feed from back of the l lighter socket. The control box now lives where the ashtray was. mat_the_cat 1
The Moog Posted August 27, 2014 Author Posted August 27, 2014 Today the pug decided to show me why it was smoking at start up, by pissing veg oil all over the engine. But the automotive gods decided to show me mercy by making it a cracked leak off stopper. Got a spare in the garage so once it cools down will lob it on and jobs a good un. I love fixing simple things ðŸ˜Å
stuboy Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 my mates 405 he got from his bil with goosed engine, engine changed, no drive gearbox goosed, change gearbox, the 6 months later rear beam was goosed.. he love it and sound of the turbo whistling....
The Moog Posted September 14, 2014 Author Posted September 14, 2014 After couple of months the fan relays are borked again. Power is going to them but the comedy placement means they are rusting already. I am going to try relocating the relays if I get a free weekend. I have bought some cheap plastic boxes that I can fit them in, which will hopefully waterproof them.

I love fixing simple things Try and clean off the veg, it dries onto everything and makes a real mess. My first veg burning 124 looked like it had been badly schutzed, under the bonnet. Difficult to remove without a big struggle and lots of time, once caked on.
The Moog Posted September 17, 2014 Author Posted September 17, 2014 Spent half an hour fixing the fans for the third time. One of the relays had died. Swapped it for another and tried to weather proof them using a set of pound shop boxes. Seems to have worked and I am mega impressed. Wont make it 100% waterproof but will definitely keep the worst of. vulgalour and mat_the_cat 2
vulgalour Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 That looks like a terrible solution, aesthetically, but providing they don't overheat inside the tupperware* I bet it proves to be a fantastic solution.
The Moog Posted September 17, 2014 Author Posted September 17, 2014 I live in Accrington, anything bursting into flames is instantly smothered by the ever present rain Properly stupid place to put fan relays, right at the front of the car so as to capture maximum rain.
