ABS, VAS warning light is now on.

Haven't had any codes read as yet, but it's either brake pedal switch, a wheel sensor, or the module.

Looking on www.typeaccord.co.uk it is clear that a new module is more than the car is worth.

I should have bought a cavalier diesel, but I thought I'd move into this millennium.

Grrrrrrrr.........

If it's any consolation, my uncle had a Cav diseasel back when they were current cars and it was constantly broken.

What year is it? I have no idea what VAS is, but I think the ABS pump electronics go senile. I got a secondhand pump for mine for 25 quid delivered, the light still comes on now and again but less than before. Be warned though, changing one is a bit of a war.

VAS is some sort of traction control.

Update. Yesterday. I got into it, and lights were off for 30 miles, and then came on for the last 10 miles of journey. Left it in a carpark at the Trafford centre, whilst me and the wife bought overpriced clothing, from disinterested shop workers, and then drove home, with lights off for first 20 miles, and on for the second 20 miles.

Anything set them off? Sometimes my ABS light will behave properly, then light up if I use the windscreen washers. Where does the unit earth to? Might be worth seeing if it's corroded.

Going to sound a bit odd but how worn are the tyres?

Had similar issues witha v6 Cougar which had traction control, turned out the new front tyres and well worn rears had enough of a difference in the rolling radius to confuse the tc/abs ecu

More new tyres sorted it out

Check the wheel speed sensors. ABS lights come on if a difference in speed is sensed.  If they are the magnetic type, they attract iron filings, loose bolts and such like. This can affect the reading, especially at higher speeds. Pull the wheels off, locate the sensors on/around the backing plate & clean 'em with a wire or plastic brush. Traction controls work in a similar fashion too, but of course that's without knowing the codes. Some manufracturers [sic] "hide" the ABS codes from aftermarket scan tools...in the good ol' USA this practice has been curtailed, but of course that depends on the model year of your vehicle.

I'd suggest you try this before you start throwing parts at it; you'll at least have ruled out faulty parts if the codes don't return.

If the lights were on continuously, that could be the module, but since not, I doubt it...

Disconnect it and fit a timer that puts the ABS light on for the correct time so it looks like it works...

Not my first choice but if it started and drove well, if the heater and its fan worked I'd prefer anything (thinking Sierra 2.3D not so good) over a car which was going to fail a test and be scrapped because the wrong light flashed on the dash and I couldn't repair/afford to repair it. That's the big prob with electronics - you treat a car well mechanically and it doesn't wear out, but there's nothing at all you can do to stop an ECU throwing a wobbler. I hear some are programmed to give a fault reading after x thousand cycles, even when all's well.

If that were ever proven the EU would fine the manufacturer Millions. (Maybe)

Well, I haven't had time to look at it before driving South 200 miles, with the light fully on, but I start a new job this morning in Hemel. Just sitting in the Olde Kings Arms looking at www.spareroom.co.uk

May be something silly.

I had an old dear bail out of her 55 plate Corsa on the M20 yesterday after a 'strange light (abs) came on'.

When i looked under the o/s front corner the driveshaft gaiter had come off and the escaped grease was now clogging the little teeth on the driveshft confusing the sensor.

Refit the gaiter and a can of brake cleaner later and all was good again.

Also baggy rear wheel bearings (think focus, fiesta) will bring the light on too.

I can hear a chirrup, that might be the start of a bearing at the front. (Ever since I did the front pads and discs about 8 week ago.)

If abs kicks in as you slow to a halt (chirrup) then it's usually a sensor or pick up ring fault.
