My sisters 1600, 59 plate golf has a snapped clutch cable. (No idea what mark etc)...

She's at mum and dads now, she starts work as a paramedic 100 miles away at 1400 tomorrow.

I've got from 0700 - 1000 to sort it…

I don't know who to call,

If you know someone who can help, …

Giz the number for the A team or at least a decent vw parts page.

Cheers.

Start at 7am. Remove old cable. Take old cable to Euro Car Parts. Refuse to give them the reg number and instead demand a part that looks identical to the one you're about to throttle the counter chimp with. Return home. Fit cable. Relax.

It's gotta be ECP for parts but don't let them guess if you need it to be right first time.

Edit: Your first problem might be ECP insisting that it's got a hydraulic clutch....

  • Local garage - explain plight, possibly be dry bummed

Local VW dealer - explain plight, possibly be dry bummed

Breakdown company - who will probably relay you to local agent, possibly to be dry bummed

Get part from motor factors, swear quite a lot trying to fit it, throw spanner that dents drivers door - call local garage, explain plight and possibly be dry bummed.

Drive it sans clutch to Mr Clutch or Halfrauds autocentre and take a pot of vaseline with you.

No Worries! :D

Going through for 0700 to have a look but unless it's just come loose, it looks like Derbyshire Ambiwlans service or whatever they call their sen's will be a paramedic short...

… Should have got RAC cover ... or a warranty… which is a point…

Spend the three hours demonstrating how to drive a car with no clutch. Sorted.

@Micrashed

Looking that way…

Wilco-motosave - fucking monstrous inbred retard mongs of 5he highest odour. [There's a new thread to follow if I can be arsed].

Good one man band mechanic across the road as long as it's pre '90.

Local motor factor who's conversant with ex mod medium/heavy armour or '80's fords.

Me, three hours, gaylander/series landy tools but limited time.

My dad; fine with a moggy traveller, particurlarly woodwork, can set tappets, bleed brakes and fettle a carb.

Not adept in vw clutches or owt beyond a KII micra.

I thought the same thing???

They did when I worked for VW.

Is the pedal stuck on the floor? if so - lift it back up and try it.

@Sornme

Magic, cheers. :)

My dad rang asking about replacing the cable, I haven't had chance to fart since I got in at Nine.

Last question before bed, is it a pre filled system or can you bleed it?

Posted

Well, at the risk of being ignored ....still..... - you can bleed it. if its a 5 speed the slave is under battery tray. Small hands might get to it.

And still - before doing anything, check if pedal is stuck to floor. if so, lift it and try it for 'feel'.

Will do Red5.

slave cylinder bracket has gone on my freelander before and am confident in diagnostics :)

I only saw a VW engine last week and all I know is that the battery is on.the right and the rest is under a cover.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for the replies, regards, Gerald.
