Started Beryl's paint.....

As Beryl's 30 this year, I thought I would give her a bit of a makeover. She's been with us about two thirds of her life, and has only been painted once since we got her. That was to change her from white to blue and I think that respray involved her being in the same barn as some paint.
So, I have decided to go the coach enamel and rollers route. This is now paint job number six for me! From the look of me hands you would think I am painting myself too.....
Only done the cab so far, its only a third of the van but the fiddliest bit due to the masking. Will finish her off over the Easter weekend. I only have one pic off me own phone.
Will put the other pics up later as they are on Gary's phone....

Compare the cab with the body...... That's only 1 coat (though obviously not a colour change) and it only took about half a litre!! It was thinned a little bit, with celly thinners.

I have some bumper and trim paint to tidy up the plastic bits, and will be spraying the wheels silver too.

Body looks good! Don't use too bright a silver for painting the wheels, it's a hard one to pull off!

Looks fresh!

I honestly don't know when I last saw a mk2 (right?) Transit, in the wild.

What I meant was, look how much the paint's faded on the body, and it's peeling on the rivets. It's her second body BTW, we wore out the first one. The shutter was about falling out (£400 for a new shutter). Over the years that body had a new floor, and had 2 lots of overhead damage (no, not me). We sold the old one for storage for £50 and found this one in a scrappy for the same money!!.

Really??  :?   I know quite a few people with em, some still working.

Her sister Alex is in intensive care. She's another 30 year old LWB, but a panel van. As she fits in me mate's workshop, she'll be painted with the same paint, but this time sprayed. We got Alex with her first MOT.

Aye. None up here that I know of. Yet I regulary spot at least two mk1's. Go figure!

Extra points to the first person to explain how that body got its "Luton" moniker.................

Looks class Fred.

TBH, and I hate to say this, I know of more Mk1s and Mk2s than I do Mk3s. When the prices catch up with the Mk3s, the shit will really hit the fan.....

TA! Anything to do the with the place Luton?

Even the Mark 3 seems rare to me, now - can't believe they were making them as recently as 2000!

LW, whilst I agree the Mk3 really went from 1986-2001, some insist on saying Mk3 went from 86-91, then the Mk4 for 2 years, then Mk5. They look the same shape to me too.... Personally I lost interest somewhere in 1987.

Is it an amalgamation of Louis and Vuitton, the famed handbag peddlers who started off making boxy bodywork for commercial vehicles?

Hat box transport, innit.

Aye, extra section over the cab to fit in more small boxes of hats to suit the requirements of  Milliners . Also makes the cab look like its wearing a hat. Of sorts.

Would have accepted either old wives tale.

Points all round!

Looks sweet - black on the wheels perhaps?

Surprised to see that the leading edge of the bonnet is intact - no filler or metal pop riveted on!

The first firm I ever worked for had an identical one with a 2 litre pinto - fully laden on the motorway it did 13mpg.

It was so slow overtaking involved getting behind artics so close you could touch them and pulling out - good old slipstreaming!

There are a couple in Kirkham and one in Freckleton that I know of. Mk 2's that is.

ah thats not her original bonnet. Bizarrely the original also had a good leading edge, but went on the drivers side eddge!

Halfords Steel Wheel spray is my pick rather than silver.
