Chod clear out - anyone especially desire any of these

Hi all,

as you know yr Uncle Dicky hasn't been so well recently and is also moving 100 miles down the road. My time and resources for diddling with chod are now curtailed. I need to cut back to two dailies and a toy. So the following are open to offers -

Citroen CX - as you know this was up before I got ill. It's in for MOT just now and i just got a 'call me' message from the garage. This isn;t necessarily a bad thing as it could be due to CX complexity rather than anything serious.

The ex Dome XJ6 - yes, love it but being realistic

The Lancia Beta project - all there and 30k on clock

The BMW Baur TC2 - This has had a lot invested in it over the last few years, it's currently at Boyd's (Bavarian Retro) in Hamilton where it is being done up. Nearing completion - spec is - E34 Baur Top Cabriolet 2 with the following changes: upgraded wheels and tyres, new stock shocks, a 2.5 engine (it had the 2.0 6cyl) an uncracked dash, a new heater valve, a new rear window blower, a good leather BMW sports interior and a period stereo - all kept as original BMW as possible. Also we are changing from an auto gearbox to a manual one. Not sure of value of this car once completed but good Baurs at this spec seem to be around the £3.5k mark.

I'll end up keeping either the Baur, the CX or the Jag but the other two really need to go.

aye

I remember the "you'd better come in and have a chat" messages from the garage when I had CXs! :-)

Any chance of a photo of the Beta? I ask for one every time you mention it but i don't think it has ever been seen on here in any form.

I'll get in line behind Signor Herr Von Testiculos as he plainly has lawful possession  of ye ancient dibbing rights.

lol - I am the worst at photos - I will take some of the lancia tomorrow.

Interestingly enough the 'can you call me' message isn't about the car which is amazingly scooting through ok on its pre check - it was to let me know that the tester's kid stepped on some glass late last night and the poor wee lad has to have an op to sew a tendon back together thus the actual mot won;t happen till tomorrow. Felt a bit bad going 'phew'...the CX cold sweats - "er, sorry sir but your Longerons are rusted - can we have £2000 please?"

Posted

You need a testing station you trust, leaving a CX with them. I've seen badly distorted longerons (car effectively totalled), cars driven off ramps while still on the bump stops, steering failed because they couldn't jack the car up without the suspension reacting and trying to self-level or because with the car on high and engine off, there was too much slop in the system. Damaged bonnets which had dented on closing (pushed instead of dropped) was often the only damage owners noticed, until I pointed out the rest - even one place which poured DoT4 into the LHM reservoir because the 'STOP' light was on while the suspension was still on the floor after being jacked up.

:angry008:

My tester is still scared witless of testing real Cits - the first time I arrived in an SM, the look on his face was priceless - "I can't possibly test that, it's like something from the future". He started smiling a little once he saw it had an Italian V6 under the bonnet. Even asked for a ride up the road - and was gob-smacked. "Flippin' eck, no wonder they went bust, these should have been more expensive than any Porsche".

Oh yeah, pix pls!

OK - plan is to keep the Citroen and sell the Jag and the Baur - no hurry here.

It's the ex Dome jag - Search Dome and XJ6.

Dome bought it from a well know Jag nut giffer who had spent some years doing it up. It's not perfect although it is a highly respectable and usable example. At present the main issues are - starboard side petrol tank - air locked ( I use the port side 140 miles from 45 lts   on a combined run in the highlands). Neither fuel gauge works - new floats are needed - not a huge job but annoying nonetheless. I carry 10lts of petrol in jerry cans in the boot in case i lose count. Bodywork - one or two slight issues but nothing in the usual places or bad. tyres and brakes good - occasional drop in pressure on the servo so might need a new one of these - rebuild kits no longer available.

I love the big XJ and have only used it for a few weeks, it's been my daily but have to be realistic - do i have the time to run two large complex classics not to mention the budget? I've also developed osteoarthritis in my basal thumb joint on my left hand - told these days to limit my hand work and stop doing so much spannering. Therefore I'm going to restrict the fleet to a daily for me, a daily for doris, the CX and I'll pick up a wee classic like a moggy or a trabant etc for fiddling around with.

My new daily Phil's XM tdi  ...

I'll get some pics up of the jag and the baur pre work. The Baur i suspect wil end up going for decent cash as in 325 form and as original stock BMW they are second only to the convertibles and some folk (like me) actually prefer them - stiffer body.

Sorry to hear you're having to shift the Jag on. The right hand tank is fine for 30-40 miles then it'll feel like its ran out of fuel-if you stop and open the filler it'll give a big sigh and then be fine again for another 30 or 40-the breathers knackered somewhere but I couldn't find any online help so never tackled it. There's nothing in the cap is there to allow it to breath?

Good buy with the XM, mentioned it to a mate who was too slow. Nice to know if you're all out of fuel miles from a fuel station or when they're all shut, a knock at most folk's door will allow the purchase of a couple of litres of cooking oil to see you on your way. Happened to me last year, no mobile signal or anything, either half a mile walk up a drive or twenty miles to the next town.

Sorry to hear of your health troubles Scoots, I remember you saying about it before. Anyway, I've always liked the Series 3 Jag, what kind of dosh would you be looking for? Hopefully it'll be into 4 figures which will leave me out of the running.

#dome cheers Brian I'm not in a hurry to shift it only if it goes to the right home. I think I have found the blocked vapour trap pipe.

#lord sterling alright Mo I'll drop you a pm l8r it us a rather nice motor.

#anthony a longeron is one of the long tubelike things that run the length of the car...sills...mais non! Why have an established system when you can invent somthing outrageously Fronch both expensive to fix and over engineered not that am Anglo Saxondale could ever appreciate that! ;-)

If you are even half serious about flogging any of this stuff you need to 'achieve the impossible' and sort out some pics.

You don't mention scooters and pics in the same sentence :-D
