Micrashed's World of Twist...

Sort of a Spottage thread, and possibly a half arsed bloggette type thing.

World of twist is my name for my collection of random shite.

Put an offer in on a nearly new NR Pullman yesterday

$_12.JPG

and lo and behold, I won it.. Problem was it was 2 hours drive away in Dottingham...

So I loaded the Micrashed with fresh petrol, the son and some Sainsburys chocolate brownies, some KP dry roasted nuts, and off we went...

En route I spottaged:

There was also a transporter full of what look like tracked Styr Puch army thingumys.

After 3 hours my bladder was at bursting point...

Left a large quantity of Micrashed tyre rubber in a place called Long Eaton when a group of Lycra clad twats decided that the stop sign didnt apply to them.

Thankfully some decent rubber and reasonable brakes meant that Micrashed stopped even if they didnt. My lad said " I saw smoke come from the tyres" - I replied, "Really? I saw smoke come from my arse lad".

Currently we are a "two caravan family" and trying to shift the old van... Like cars they have more than their fair share of utter fuckwits come to see them or make offers.

New Van:

C8 isnt the best outfit I have ever towed with, even though the van is well within its weight range, the whole outfit is too wallowly.

The New van is very nice, though we have an issue with the bed rail, currently "fixorated" with some 6mm MDF board and a couple of bits of decking wood cut to size. Not overly keen myself so looking at longer term solutions. I may have to get my tame joiner friend Bob involved here to make something that doesnt look too Heath Robinson.

Got someone coming today to look at the van, with a bit of luck they wont fall into the "I'll think about it" category, or indeed fall into the "Its not really what I want, so I'll offer you a full 2 grand less than the asking price for it" category which also seems to be the mentality of a few people. Take thsi conversation off one of the Facebollocks selling sites:

hi could you accept £3,500 please?

I would, but without the full awning, just the porch awning. £3600 with everything.

i cant find the ad now, can u send me info an pics via message pls?

found it, just showed hubby hes not keen, says he will offer £3,200, u can keep the awning

If he not keen the he would be better finding something he is keen on. Good luck with the hunt there are plenty out there to choose from.

it for me mainly, he knows more about caravans than me....can we do the £3200?

My reply isnt really printable. This conversation in the space of a couple of minutes going from £4000 ONO to £3200 because her husband "doesnt really like it".

Fuck right off.

But on a positive note, I never realised it was Duffy from Please Sir! In the Dottingham Tunes ad.

That's my new fact for today.

Interesting that you find the C8 wallowy for towing, I had a 2001 (old shape) Fiat Ulysse that was a better towcar than the Disco we had at the same time,a lot of this I put down to the fact there wasn't any rear overhang and the suspension was very firm.

Posted

Not sure if its a Citroen thing, but the suspension is very soft all round. This makes for a nice ride, but does not bode well for 1600kgs nearly of caravan on the arse end. The nose weight might have been a tad over, but I doubt it given the van was empty when towing save for a couple of Calor Lite cylinders in the front.

... dare we open a 'caravanning thread'....

I have quite a gross overhang, which is an impediment on the occasions I am 'firm', and scraping my 'jockey wheel'

Yes Savvy,I too have found that an issue. Have you tried reverse coupling? just be careful of the back doors.

....ha ha.

Young couples, with very little experience, might try a reverse with the 'Sway Bar' attached. That is the biggest BANG! they'll have had to date

LoL

The absolute very worse outfit I had the misfortune to tow with was a Mk1 Laguna 1.8RT "Sport" with a Swift.

The steering would utterly disappear if anything came past you with any sort of downwind ( transit size van upwards).

I tried varying the nose weight, loading the front end, loading the middle, loading it tail heavy everything I could think of, in the end I rebuilt the very very soft Renner suspension with some progressive gasmatic shocks and coil over springs, even that didnt really help and I made its arse end as hard as I could.

It was somewhat a relief when I wrote the Renner off and replaced it with a Xantia - top bombing for towing and steady as a rock.

Also good for 80 whilst towing, sadly the caravan tyres were not and I manages to shred both on a trip to Taunton.

The Zafira was pretty capable too, though this was pushing it weight wise for what it should tow:

Unfortunately the Zafira had an exhaust system made of Brie and suffered more DPF faults than women have mood swings. Hence the C8 ( need to cart about the tribe and we have an odd number of kids... I have since had my tubes tied!)

I have no kids... perhaps I suffer the opposite >> EGR cacked up?  :?

* I do, however, have a StepDaughter + 6 Grandkids - one lives with me so 'no time off for good behaviour'.... sadly.

Try this instead?

Thats cheating, it has an extra wheel. Really the HP set up on the CX should be man enough to deal with that!

This afternoon I have been mostly trying to educate my mate Bob on how to use eBay to clear some of his shite.

1970's Onyx floor lamps anyone?

Here are a couple of "up skirt" shots of the old girl

Took the tribe Geocaching today  - for those who dont know what it is, its a simple way of enticing youngsters outside on a walk...

Found an interesting derelict bungalow,in quite a good sized plot but suspect there are probably ROW issues with the neighbouring property, and the huge tumble down asbestos barn would be a bit of a nightmare to dispose of too.

Anyway, on our travles today we stumbled accross a caravan graveyard - I suspect it might have been once a C&CC site for 5 or less vans and these have been abandoned by their owners. Also abandoned was a 1987 Panda last on the road in 2000...

Factoid for the day - One of the things expected with caching is to leave items of interest in the cache - today I left a 1943 canadian 5c coin near the panda... The 5c coin is these are interesting, (but not very rare) as they were made during the war instead of nickel, of a type of brass, called tombac.

To aid in distinguishing them from the bronze one-cent coins, the five-cent pieces were given a dodecagonal or 12-sided, shape.

On the reverse side, the traditional design of a beaver was replaced by a new special design with a patriotic motif. The large V featured in the centre stood both for five (cents) and for victory. To further enhance the impact of the design, the usual rim beads were replaced by an international code message of dots and dashes reading: "We win when we work willingly."

Autoshite, old chod and education rolled into one. :)

Slightly good news, we "may" have sold the caravan, I wont count my small feathered egg laying friends that go cluck untill I have a deposit, but that ,ay happen tonight!

In other news - I spotted this on one of the Preston "looking back" pages on Facebork and the nice lady who posted it was happy for me to share it..

Yes, she knows its back to front - but we thought Fred might like it.

Not really sure what its all about , we suspect its Anderton services and may have something to do with the miners strike.

Readers of the other thread will know of my horn for a SWB Frontera and hard choices have to be made with regards cars in the household.and my son has decided that the Micrashed stays and the Cherry goes. Odd choice but there you go. Its up to him, he gets to keep one car and the other one goes.

So anyone fancy a Cherry? Much reduced from my purchase price.

Posted

Hmm. How much of a horn?

Petrol? Diesel? - I know of one going for £500 tax and tested

Was looking for a B series really up to £1500, but hey you know a useable one with tax and test to satisfy my itch might just do the job...

Tell me more red.
