OLLI - I can haz old Landy - Staying for another winter

Unlike most cars, Landies have not grown bloated over the years, as even a brand new one is not much bigger than a 1976 one (although the new one usually stands taller as it has hewarge tyres).  Here is  me 1976 with a 1990 Defender, for sale locally but for 4K, 'kinnell.

It looks like your shadow puppet dog is trying to bite your face off.

Some bloke flashed his lights at me this morning to warn of a police speed van parked up ahead on the A40.  I was in the Landy. Er, thanks chap, but I should be so lucky.

I have been trying to perfect the system for the Landy nod/wave.

Roolz:

Other Landy is driven by a farmer/working bloke who is driving it for a reason other than to demonstrate to the populace at large just how much of a fucking OLLI dude he is -  no nod or wave.

Other bloke in Landy is middle class posh twat like me - nod or wave, coz that's how we roll YOLO.

Yummy mummy in LWB Defender on stressed out school run - only if you would.

Disco 1s and classic Rangeys - OK.

Later Discos, later Rangeys, Evoques, all Freelanders - fuck off.

Other tatty old 4x4s that are not Landies etc -  depends.  Those dudes do let you out at junctions and such, so big snogs, I guess.

What's up with gaylanders?

Just been for a part to local indy and he said his profits had dropped since I got rid of the V8 and bought an hgf special gaylander!

Maybe they are OK then.   Isn't the problem that they explode if they go 1 mm off tarmac?

Needs more "throwing fag packets and coke cans out of cab" detail, but overall, good work.

There are few pleasures in life greater than brush painting an old Landy with Hammerite that is slightly the wrong shade of green.

The more I drive this one the more I am amazed at how much better it is than my last one. That one had the classic Michelin XCL knobbly tyres that were tall and thin, and great on mud, snow, general grot, and anything else except sand and roads. They were rubbish on roads. The current one has quite modern style 4x4 tyres, which are fairly good on mud, and not bad on roads.   My last one struggled to do 50, and at that speed felt and sounded like it was going to explode.  The current one will do 60 with ease, and will go a bit over that, but starts to complain a bit then. I wish it had an overdrive.   It can sort of corner semi quickly ish, a bit, on swoopy bends, whereas the last one felt like it was on beer trays on ball bearings.

4 SAYLE - old gearbox.  1976, prob done about 88000 miles.  Main gears work.  Issue on high to low selection that may be sortable by cleaning off rusty bits.   Make me an offer!

Glad I didn't pop for two new tyres - just put 20 quid's worth of tubes in two of them and theyahave stopped going down. Ye olde steely rimz of knackerage to blame.

Am going to waste time and effort and glue in some soundyproof foam tat and add Britpart doorcards for Landy PIMPage.

Need also to glue Fairey Overdrive decal on back of shed to add 5 BHP.

Let's go for OVROAD MONGFEST 2, but where?

As Autoshite is being taken over by Landy threads old and new, I will update this one to say that this particular old Landy has been well behaved for a whole year and passed its MoT last week without too much hassle, but the brake pedal has just gone soft, and the always rubbish brakes are even more rubbish than usual.

Doing a trash hauling trip today, I found that if you double pump the pedal the brakes work, sort of, but they probably need bleeding or some other such vehicular related bollocks.

Most likely adjustment BV. Nut on the back plate turned a couple of clicks might sort it.

Good news for Land Rover owners!! You can simply use the vehicle in front* as a brake.

*do not use this technique of the vehicle in front is a petrol tanker.

One life live it. And all that

Great lode lane pic!! Apparently there's a sort of mock up of the original

Series 1 production line that you can visit, put together somewhere on site apparently.

Anyone fancy buying this cranky old grid?  Actually quite uncranky.    I could not really justify keeping it if I get an old Disco. as I might.

1976, petrol, approx 95,000 miles, Fairey Overdrive, auxiliary dials (not connected), wiring for radio (radio available, not fitted), decent Maxxis tyres, two spare tyres (one spare wheel, on bonnet), proper wing mirrors, tow ball, no corrosion advisories on last MoT (Next due Feb 2016).  Brakes need adjusting (work if double pumped).  Newish front seats, all with seat belts in front, four seats in back, split tailgate/loading deck, cloth headlining, vinyl door cards and soundproofing foam (not currently fitted) .    Driver's door needs attention as window mounting a bit loose through age.  Always starts and runs well.   Tatty looking, which suits it.   NO checkerplate, snorkel, roofrack or other OLLI bollix (unless you count the auxiliary dials, and they don't work).   Tax free next year.

I dunno: £1800?
