Too right!

I'd rather hand my liscense back than drive an eco car!

Once my new Yank arrives that should piss off the green brigade! tossers!

Big old stuff is great when your buying them as you can get some fantastic cars that were mega bucks when new very cheaply, the trouble comes when you need to sell them on again (assuming you care about it not ending up on the oval!).

I have had a possible bite from the Volvo forum so fingers crossed it works out and the car goes to a good home.

Must be more of a sign of the times I think, people don't like big old luxo barges anymore. The fools!

What about the chap over on the Volvo forum. He seemed really interested. No good?

Fair play to you dan, unfortunately for me I do too many miles to run a big un every day, I balance it out by having a couple of gas guzzlers to use at weekends so I don't feel too bad but id love to upset the greeny brigade more regularly, hope it finds a buyer soon,it deserves it.

Cheers for the heads up on that one. The guy from Volvo forum is hopefully going to come take a look. Just have to see what happens.

Had I the cash lying I'd be travelling to Portsmouth via John Candy Promotions to bring that closer to Scandinavia, but I am absolutely rooked this month. If in the unlikely event it's still not sold by the end of April I'll re-evaluate funds...

*Bump*

Yes, it's still available!

So far I've had two possibles but no one has bothered to turn up!

I really don't know see what's so wrong with this car? Surely someone must want it?

Sadly Mrs Wobbler just isn't as excited about this bargain as I am, though she did concede that it is excellent value!

Didn't you need something for long distance wafting...?

Posted

Yes. And my dodgy foot is feeling a lot more dodgy today, so an auto would be a good idea. Neither of these is matched by actual funds sadly.

My 740 estate had the same engine/gearbox combo and would return a fairly constant 30MPG in motorway use. City use would reduce this to 25MPG or less - but nobody sane would buy a boxy Volvo for city use !

Boxy Volvos are very easy to manoeuvre; great visibilty, tight turning circle and you can see each corner.

Holy moly just noticed this. 400 nuggets for a car where almost everything works as it should, service, full taxt and test. If I needed a new car I'd be all over this, with funds to spare for when the tax falls due.

Posted

As said, 30mpg is about right on a run. When it went to Wales before Xmas it managed an average of 26mpg combined, motorways, A & B roads and a bit of town driving and that was before the mot so it had a slight bind on one front brake too! (Fixed now) obviously if you drive it hard that will fall badly but why anyone would drive a car like this like that I don't know, I certainly don't feel the need to, it's a nice old cruiser.

I really don't find it too bad on fuel at all tbh, a micro diesel it ain't but it's not bad.

aarrgh!

I've too many cars...

it's in Jewish Racing Gold as well - the best colour for these!

You need a 940 estate in Swedish racing Turquoise.

How the hell is this still for sale? It is so nice. I'm gonna try and get a loan tomorrow so I can actually have it, every day I don't own this is like a dagger to my soul

Uh oh, one of my colleagues has just gone to Portsmouth for a holiday for a few days. Thankfully I won't see him until he comes back otherwise some monies might be heading your way.

These are superb cars.

they are as reliable, well built and long lived as folklore suggests.

How the fuck can this be up for 400 quid and not sell?

Okay so it'll average 23 mpg but the car is virtually free FFS. No catalyst test MOT nonsense either. You can run this for another 10 years or more.

My only issue is the lack of £400. If I'd had £400 sitting this would already be on my drive wowing the neighbours. But it's not. 'Cos I don't.

Fair dos. Just a shame that some bearded Swedes in orange corduroys designed this car to last 83 years and now its worth bugger all coz it's old* and doesn't have a 59 mpg ** tdcdtid diesel HERPES safety restraint for KIDZ air or nav, damped ashtrays or talk to your iPhone.

* therefore it's automatically NFG

** In your fucking dreams, suckers

Just shows what this miserable little country is like nowadays! Most of the people in it and running it are tosses too! People should be incentivised and encouraged to keep older things for longer and look after things more instead of buying new products of dubious quality and performance and creating mass piles of waste in the process! But we all know why that won't ever happen.

Anyway, I've got someone coming to have a look tomorrow so fingers crossed it will go ok.

I fear that my quest for a new car (read Volvo) has begun too late to buy this, but I am very interested in the car if the sale of it doesn't go ahead as planned tomorrow - could you PM me if it doesn't?
