Evening all,

I have finally managed to procure a new bad boy* sound system for my almera in the shape of a Clarion PN-9484L radio cassette which previously lived in a 1990 Nissan Bluebird.

Now, I have never seen the type of connector for the aerial before and wonder if one of you might have seen it and be able to put me on to the type of adaptor I need to seek out to restore the full glory of Radio 4 to my daily commute.

It looks like this:

If it is the one on the far left of the picture, its a larger bore than I've seen before and has 2 holes. It will require a 2-pin male connector (by the looks of it). If its the black one next to that, it will need a 5-pin connector in a sort of fan shape. I don't know the name of either of the connectors!

I know the other end needs to be a female DIN aerial connector, but so far an ebay trawl hasn't yielded anything promising looking.

Thanks for looking

Didn't the bluebirds have 2 aerials?

Yes - exactly! I found a very similar device but it had the 'female' end of the 2-pin thing as well.

in that ad it refers to it as a 'Twin Pin' aerial connector, but searching this term only seems to throw up more female versions. annoying.

Yes, the main antenna in the back wing (ooh, electric!) and the diversity antenna printed on the rear screen next to the heated screen lines. The LED's on the front of mine would flip-flop from one to the other to show which one was picking up the best signal.

Technically if you just connect one it'll just light up the appropriate LED and stay on that antenna

As for the correct plug... not sure, I'm trying to remember if it had an adapter that plugged into there and went off to two standard car co-ax antenna sockets, one to each antenna

Scrappy visit might be in order, if you can find a Bluebird

I think I might have a connector for that. I'll have a look on the morrow.

Just bare the ends of some wire, scrunch them up so its a snug fit and bung them in the holes.

That would be most excellent if you do happen to have one, the tape player bit works fine and I'm fully looking forward to the radio too. For now I shall improvise in true shiter fashion with one of those tape-to-jack-lead gizmos (in hearing aid beige for extra points) and attach it to my phone which claims to have FM radio functionality.

if all else fails I shall resort to bunging a twisted wire in one of the holes and seeing how I get on. I can't possibly be worse than the current one which refused to play tapes then rewarded my persistence by eating a FE-90 copy of Gary Numan's Replicas which it now won't give back. The radio bit works intermittently and will randomly change volume from 'normal' to mute then turn itself to 11 and deafen people a good half mile away with absolutely no warning. As soon as I have a working replacement I shall be casting the old one into the sea, with no hint of remorse for the environmental impact it will have as it slowly rusts to nothing.
