At morrisons again, in the world food aisle. 3 different types all a fiver for 5 litres.

Tesco have the 10 for £10 thing on permanently. If possible, I get the sunflower variety (round bottles) as it seems to cause less problems in cold weather, although that could be my overactive imagination.

Does different flavours improve the running? So does a luxo barge run better on walnut oil and leave the smart price stuff to the Fiasco denzels?!

Yep, you should only run an XM 2.1 on extra virgin olive oil, otherwise the spheres will all explode.

Seriously though, soya oil is bad for thickening up and clogging injectors and filters in cold weather - I think the stuff labelled "vegetable oil" is actually a blend of different types, and since making a point of only getting sunflower oil (same price) I've noticed better cold starts.

Renamed thread, keep the alerts coming guys! Also, atf is supposed to be the shizzle producing a good burn and reduced knock. Any offers on that? I've experimented with all sorts from 10w40, atf, dsg oil, bbq fuel, white spirit, brake cleaner etc!

Actually when I think about it my 306 did run better on the ten litres/ten quid Tesco stuff than the £16.00/20 litres Costco veg oil. But four quid is four quid, so Tesco can GTFO.

Some of these oils have an anti foaming agent added which makes them less burnable, KTF is one that springs to mind.

I don't think the anti foaming agent makes it any less combustible - the common KTC stuff is soya oil, it's not the best of oils, but fine if cheap or free.

rapeseed oil is a close second to sunflower. Both are thin so dont thicken as much in the cold. Jokes aside, never use olive oil! It has the cosistancy of butter in the cold.

On a similar subject, I mixed 10 litres of used engine oil with 7 litres of used shitty KTC oil, shook it all up and left it to settle. All the crud from the veg and engine oil seemed to bond together and sink to the bottom of the tank. When I poured off the good stuff at the top it looked lovely, what was left at the bottom looked like sandy sludge. The XM seems to like running on it anyway.

Playing it a bit close to the wind there mate.

Black Deisel and Veg do not like mixing. Search and read up about blending black deisel on google.

It's all been mixed with 40 litres of bio diesel anyway so I should be ok! Is black diesel easily made? I know someone with 500 litres of used engine oil....

Scooter' s 2.25 diesel landrover and ford banana cocktail is as follows:

60% finest hydrogenated veg oil from chinese supermarket I dont feel guilty as hydrogenated veg oil kills people

35% premium grade diesel, the detergent helps it bind with the veg

5% petrol

Doesnt seem to give me any issues.

In tow with my topic on best VEG car, What are people doing blend wise?

My previous AAZ engined golf seemed ok on 50/50 diesel /veg. Although it was a bit of a pain to start on cold mornings

Scooters- re the "premium derv" does that not almost negate the savings from veg?

Currently running almost 100% veg in xantia. Hunts for about 5 seconds on start and that's it.

I seem to recall that when it became widespread knowledge that you could run dizzlers on plants, they said you should add a bit parrafin (2%) to help it out. Sounds like a good plan to me, it's quite a good solvent and may help avoid lumps. Olive oil should be a definite no-no because of how much it congeals below like 8 degrees.

I'd be a little wary of used engine oil because (I'm told) there's no duty on it and it can be classified the same as cherry. I have access to various 'ingredients' I could put into my tank which'd all burn off nicely, but they are something of a dodgy area if caught with in the tank.

A mate of mine was a substation fitter and used to run his wagon on used transformer oil. Don't know much about it, viscosity etc... But I also have access to shit loads of it.
