Mitsubishi Emeraude (and other hardtops)

Probably a bit too new for Old Japanese Car so I thought I'd throw it on here, check out this mental thing, the Mitsubishi Emeraude:

 

It's essentially an early 90s Galant in pillarless hardtop form, with a rather odd front. If that isn't odd enough for you, the engine choices are a 1.8 SOHC V6 and a 2.0 DOHC V6. I imagine the former is an interesting driving experience. Obviously they're FWD, but there's also a baffling 4WD version.

Intriguing. Looks like Mitsubishi’s take on the Mazda Persona (?) and Nissan Presea, which filled minutely small gaps in their ranges. Doubtless Toyota did something similar too, Carina ED maybe?

Carina ED would be the Toyota equivalent - incidentally, the ED is for "Exciting Dressy". Mazda Persona seems right, if I recall there was a Eunos-badged version of it too.

 

On the subject of Mazda, got to love the Efini MS-8:

Midsection is reminiscent of the Mazda Lantis and hardtop mid-90s Camry oft' seen as a taxi in Guernsey.

Front looks very early 90's Oldsmobile to me.

You got there before me! The first thing I thoight when I saw that pic was "Oldsmobile Aurora".
