F-word wonderful waftbarge lives!

Yo, folks.

It's time to reveal that I am now the proud owner of the black Granada 2.8i Ghia X from Wales, courtesy of Dollywobbler, whom I'm eternally owing a pint or many.

The car was collected on Saturday via transporter, in an epic collection trip that started at 11am, and finally ended at 3:30am Sunday.

Wales must either be a tax paradise, or if not, an investigation should be made, for what exactly the internal revenue is misappropriated, since infrastructure it is clearly not. This makes progress with a 7.5 ton car transporter a terribly straining and time consuming ordeal.

The Granada, as you all know, is from the same collection the R6 and Panhard are from and all I can say is that my impression is that the cars weren't exactly cherished, to say the least. This cannot be said of the vintage tractor collection of the two brothers who own the place, which is very impressive. We were shown at least ten tractors in mint condition housed in storage that would also have provided ample space for all the cars, but they were simply dumped into a mud puddle instead.

Anyway, the Granada is here now, photos haven't been taken yet, since I haven't seen the car in daylight yet. Why this is the case you can read in another thread shortly.

Welsh miles aren't like normal miles. See also the miles you get north of Glasgow/Edinburgh. Glad it's made it safely. Hope it's ok! I didn't fancy rolling around in a puddle to get right under the thing but did my best to check it.

I know exactly what you are talking about!

When I took a mud-bath to attach the tow rope, I expected some pigs to join me any moment.

Looking forwards to the photos and hearing how good/bad it is!, was it a lot of money?.

  • ...and what time are you racing it?

Its true that welsh miles take a log longer to cover. However you can get a few more in for every gallon of overpriced pez that you buy, as a consequence so it all works out OK.

Only semi-deliberately. I just feared that hadn't I taken on the Grandad, it'd inevitably end up on the oval of doom.

I would not be jealous of me if I was you, lemme tellyas.

I haven't made it to 827 Sterling ownership yet.

What do you mean collection story?

We took this A-frame antidote:

Drove there, did some mud wrestling, loaded the heap up, drove back and miraculously survived, if I'm not mistaken.

And these pictures I took down by the garage during lunch time today:

Aye. Certainly felt like it. Apparently, it has only been outside this past year. Again, can we take it as a good sign that the water wasn't actually leaking out of the footwells? Holding it at that angle might actually help it drain a little...

You still need to answer important questions. Is the Bonnie Tyler tape still with it?

Posted

The tape is in it, but some git nicked the cigars! The boot is also full of rubbish, sifting through that stuff will be funny, for sure.

We deliberately left it on the lorry for the time being, because of said angle.

We also had all doors open since the sun shone today, which took care of a lot of condensation and mold already.

As far as we can tell from peeping underneath, it's rock solid in all the areas that usually need welding, apart from the spare wheel recess.

My tame garagist thinks it'll start right up. He'll try later this week.

Well thats a great result coming from sat in a muddy puddle for an indeterminate length of time!

Even having been simply dragged from said muddy puddle to a breakdown lorry, it still manages to look classy

Brilliant. As for price paid, I'm not going to give too much away as it's not my place to, but I will probably be giving myself a mild kicking in years to come. There will definitely be work to do, but I'll be dead chuffed for you if it fires into life nicely! Every chance, but you never have a clue when stuff has been off the road that long. Might just run, might just not.

No matter how you look at it, it will need a total respray and better bumpers.

I already have a set of non-metric wheels on the way for it.

Junkman

Was that picture of the IVECO recovery truck taken down behind Bury New Road fake gear shops in Manchester? Its where I park my shitey Micra K11 every day when I walk into work so gave me a bit of deja vu! There's a little bodyshop in a shed round the corner with several old Masers undergoing extensive work at the moment.

It looks okay in the pictures but the black paint hides a lot of horrors. Did I dream it or has it got a manual box?

This must be right in your sweet spot of modern technology Junkman. I.e. Mid 80's

That is one of our shops, yes, but we hope we can move to a better place soon.

This spaghetti-shite was the idea of my friend, despite I told him not to do it.

Now I let him deal with the Italians, as a revenge. He is starting to learn.

Fortunately it has a proper gearbox, I would be extremely disappointed if it had three pedals.

Technology-wise, this was the zenith in automotive history. It all went downhill from there and literally became pear-shaped.
