Here you go, a picture of Bub's spectacular and roomy box.

Had a shelf in it,then ended up with zebra print and amber beacon. I did like the bike but caused me nothing but hassle.

Can't remember if I'd sent this to you, but if you fancy a challenge...

Funnily enough, I've made a start on that one but not finished sketch enough to show you yet.  Struggling most of all with the large body of water, another thing I don't draw and need to learn.  In fact, I don't really draw boats at all so it's a big challenge for me.

Posted

I don't think I have a decent close-up unfortunately. Maybe zoom in and crop some of the wet stuff out??

Posted

With boat pictures, the wet stuff is fairly important I think.

I know less about water craft than I do about motorbikes, I have literally no idea what the majority of the things I've drawn above actually are so I get the feeling it's wrong.  Still, I can at least say I've now drawn a boat/yacht/ship/dinghy or whatever it's called, which is something I hadn't done before.

Over to you, Cheggers, since you know this craft better than I do.

Now that's really impressive! - you've captured the sail shapes and movement through the water brilliantly. If I had a hat I'd take it off to you. That is seriously, seriously good :)

Posted

It'll be better with colour, which will happen, because it would be criminal not to colour in that magnificent sail.  Have you got a picture of the boat in better resolution so I can figure out what's going on with the deck fixtures?  I can't really work it out from the reference picture and zooming in just confuses things.

If I had a hat I'd take it off and put it under the sea for you.

He's captured that!

Just a test on mdf.  Need to figure out the conversion to 1bit bitmaps or whatever it is the laser wants.

Engravingtest3_zps7a106383.jpg

I've not done any engraving as such only a few little badges as being a Chinese laser it is VERY slow at it against a UK/US laser but then again there's the 18K price difference... this took best part of 50 minutes - it works like a dot matrix printer for engraving so think back to printing pictures on listing paper.

Posted

If you needed a better quality scan of the original at higher resolution I can fire one off to you via e-mail.  Dot matrix engraving is clearly the future*.

I'll have a fiddle about over the weekend and see what I can do. I'll resize it smaller so I can test things quicker rather than doing it that size.

There's a higher proportion of rich boatists than car drivers. It may be worth your time finding the correct yachting forum to show what you can do.

My father used to get commissions for water colours of steam engines off various people, not because he was a great painter, but because they had seen that he could fulfill a request of a particular train/place combo to an acceptable standard. He even had a small run of drawings of trains that where designed but never built shown in real locations, for one of the magazines.

I'll have to investigate further.  Trouble is I know next to nothing about boats and they don't excite me particularly and I need to be excited at least a little bit to actually want to create a picture.  Bonus to Chegger's picture is the sail is something I find really interesting and stimulating so that's the bit I'm enjoying most.

Steam engines I adore, I still haven't got around to drawing a steam lorry which I really ought to do.  I don't know why I don't draw more steam powered stuff, I love everything about them.

The busiest UK boating forums are on www.ybw.com - I agree there must be a market for boat pics, as folks charge a fortune for professional photographs of their yachts (Google "Beken of Cowes" for an idea of the sort of pics they sell)

Posted

They charge more for prints than I do for original artwork!

You know it's fast approaching THAT TIME of year right?  Well it just so happens I am currently wide open to take new work on.  Here's a little advert.

So if you want to really impress someone then you should totally buy some artwork from me.  I'll draw just about anything, it doesn't have to have wheels on it.  I enjoy drawing the mundane, the bizarre and even the shambolic but I don't just draw people.  Oh no, I draw houses and pets and cars and boats and bikes and I'll even have a stab at aeroplanes and helicopters.  Really, you name it and I'll have a go at drawing it, the list just there is by no means exhaustive.

Order now and let me put the effort in to your festive gift so that you don't have to!

Prices (for A4, includes P&P worldwide):

2nd Prize from the Tombola went to shiter Purplebargeken and here it is... allbeit with the carefully painted off-white of the Volvo completely washed out by my recalcitrant scanner.

post-5335-0-31523100-1415121227_thumb.jpg

Seriously, the white paint of the car in reality is a pale cream but on this scan it looks like I haven't even bothered.  Should've seen the state of the green when initially scanned too, it was like I'd used sodding highlighter pens!  I'm getting pretty narked off with my scanner, it keeps resetting itself to scan in the stupidest way it can, manual calibration or not.

Ooooooooooh, bloody wonderful, shonkey scanner or not. Thank you very much indeed :)

Angyl, are the above pics on the post from 27/10 still for sale? I may be interested in a couple if they are.

Caught your PM before the above comment, marked the appropriate ones as sold.  Not many left now.

Finished Bub2006's Honda picture today, and very pleased with it I am too.  I don't know that I'll do more bike pictures for myself but I wouldn't be averse to commissioned ones if that tickled anyone's fancy.  They do take me a lot longer on account of how fiddly they are.
