Anyone used Car Take Back?

Well my old Merc bit the dust today in an expensive MOT-failing kind of way so I might as well get shot of it. :-(

It's the massively unpopular W210 320 petrol saloon on a P plate and I'm not kidding myself it's worth spending the £6-700 it's going to cost to fix when I'd be lucky to get that much back for it if I sold it with a full ticket, and CTB's website is offering me £230.
Are they a reputable bunch or is it like dealing with WBAC and they'll make 'admin' deductions & the like to leave you owing them money?

I hate just giving up and binning it, it's been a good car and it's all mechanical stuff needing doing rather than a weld-fest but I don't know if I've got the stomach to deal with a succession of Ebay/Gumtree mongs for the sake of maybe getting an extra hundred quid or so for it.

Yep, a couple of times, on the website they say it's got to be a complete car so they won't take owt that has been bummed for all its bits, but they do pay up and the blokey who collected stuff was personable enough according to my mam.

They didn't mind me robbing the batteries off them both but I would assume they need to be rolling and looking somewhat complete.

May be worth putting an ad up here and on the blue forum in whilst you mull it over, never know your luck.

Seriously..... find a Dealer for these who sends them to Africa. They can make big money of you go through the right people. My S-Class was no good for the Middle East because of the Leather apparently, but they liked the 3 Litre 6 cylinder petrol, perfect for a Taxi. A week after I sold it,. I had a call back from an African chap offering more money........ Ah well,

Really? I'd always thought the people who wanted them for export didn't like paying for them, if you know what I mean...

Where might I find such dealers of doom, or should I just go ahead and risk an ad on Ebay/Gumtree?

Car take back are very good. Used them a few times- pound notes as quoted, picked up when they say and all very friendly. I would recommend.

Gumtree it for about £375 and see what happens. That should flush some exporters out.

I've used CTB. No problems at all. They paid the price quoted and collected it really quick.

I just tried them for a price on the 03 c3 pluriel I have got here. £60 collect or £90 delivered to them. I think not. I suspect it all depends where you are the yards down here seem a bit tight.

It may well be a regional thing but there is a big difference between the two sites in Bucks. I put in the registration for a 2003 C3 Pluriel on ebay (MT03PBU) and got quoted £166 collected on Motorwise and £85 collected on CTB.

You have to ask yourself is dealing with gumtree'rs with half functioning frontal lobes worth it for 80 quid?

Having seen some of the comments on the local facebook car for sale site it's just about put me off wanting to sell any car every again.

I'd recomment CTB highly. After suffering from texts and e-mails from complete Gumtree foreskins, this was the best way for me.

I used CTB for my old Vectra. Offered me £200 for it which I thought was tip-top. U-pull it were the nominated breaker who are a large and reputable company.

Still paid up even though the car had no battery, exhaust, interior and half a dashboard. The brakes were also seized solid and it was in a lockup.

My wife was there when the poor chap literally dragged it out the garage with his winch and then all you could see was his head as he sat on the floor steering the car onto the truck as it was winched up.

From the scrap and selling the bits I got over £400 which was a lot more than I could have got via Gumtree for an old MOT-less Vectra.

For some reason best known to them, they always offer more when they collect than they do if I deliver to them. I have a gut feeling they 'do an EMR' and pay more the closer to a dock that you are.

Seems to be the case. There's quite a few scrappys round here and they are offering more if they collect, which seems weird.
The Motorwise one is offering a tenner more since it gives you the option to add alloy wheels to the quote, so we're up to £240.

Just weigh it in and come and pick up your new XJR :)

Much as I'd love an XJR I fear it'll be a bit over budget at the moment, maybe on another day I'd be genuinely interested but I'm after something cheap & cheerful that I can shift on again with minimum loss in a few months. After a few hours this morning scanning Gumtree & making a few calls to total fuckwits, my dislike of Audis is starting to weaken. ;)

I stuck an ad for the Merc on Gumtree for £400 and I've had quite a few replies so far, including emails from the usual mongs offering £150 despite me saying in the ad that Cartakeback.com are offering £250 with no hassle...

So hopefully I might get a result on it.

You're brave on Gumtree, I got incensed at the complete shiz that I was sent from some people who wanted the moon in a stick. " Tell you what, I'll just GIVE you the car and get the bus back" is what I should really have used as a reply instead of "No thanks".
