How many of these petitions are there? The government are doing moving to 40yr (maybe rolling with any luck) so i would prefer there to be a petition for that.

Unless we are playing the government game of offering something ridiculous and then backing down to a more reasonable alternative?

The green lobby (bless them*) would have us believe that older gars guzzle more gas and therefore kill more ickle baby polar bears. This is a great excuse to tax them and so therefore the government with its global responsibility hat on (I'm told it looks like a sombrero) tries to discourage us from driving older cars.

However, cars that do not have a cat converter produce carbon MONOXIDE which is a very very weak greenhouse gas and therefore is polar bear friendly.

Perhaps applying CO2-based excise duty on all cars would be fairer, catalytic converter or not.

Ignoring the (usual) social networking mentality/hysterics, have any of these petitions ever actually worked? I just don't believe it tbh, otherwise you'd only need to decide that people in your line of work needed a £10,000 a year payrise, petrol should be free and beer should be 20p a pint, then start a petition, go on FaceAche and all your dreams will come true.

It's pointless trying to start a revolution from your bedroom, the only way things are going to change is by direct action I.e protests etc.

The only one of these petitions that actually worked was the one against Road Pricing a few years back. Blair's government was actively pursuing it as a possibility, but quickly shelved it after a million plus signature petition gave them squeaky bums.

To get actual results you need a MONSTER amount of signatures.

^ that's because that left wing front bottom Ken Livingstone got away with imposing CONgestion charging even though 75% of people were against it. Being the hero of the working classes the c##t merely freed up the streets of Central London for Arabs in Dubai registered super cars. Vote Labour, and you'll get this in Birmingham, Manchester and so on.

I'm obviously a thousand percent behind the ethos of the petition, but unfortunately an e-petition is about as effective as hoping that Jim'll Fix It.

I would sooner have the money spent on keeping the local DVLA offices open.

Do you know what?  We are less than a week into another New Year and I have decided I just dont bloody care any more about shit like this.  Tax the fuckers, dont tax the fuckers, take the money that X generates and cut Y by the same amount....Its all bollocks and I am not wasting any more of my time ticking boxes, saying what I think/don't think or putting meaningless crosses on bits of paper just so some self-inflated cunt gets even more money.   Fuck Em All....red yellow green or blue

Protests rarely work now anyway. The country is divided into two camps on most issuesand that's the way they like it. It has to be about losing/gaining votes.
