The mounts look the same as the mounts on my Nippa - would appreciate if ol' Ron could take a photo of the bolt pattern on the gearbox side and more photos (just a few all round). If this fits in a Cuore or a Nippa, it'd be great as you don't really get diesels below 1.5!  They also made a two cylinder diesel engine in the 80's which was 600cc - I bet that was fun.

I vaguely recall an article in Craptical Plastics a while ago where a chap fitted a 1.3 daihasu diesel to an austin 12, apparently he was a serial offender for such things and had fitted relatively modern, small diesel engines to a variety of pre-war tin. The tone of the article was generally positive, along the lines of 'previously fitted with a 1660cc engine which struggled to make 20bhp and did about 18 to the gallon. Now fitted with a 1.3 diesel which makes ~50bhp and does 50 to the gallon. apparently it went at a fair old lick too, and he'd done something to the brakes and when the herbert from PC hit them expecting dismal performance he was rudely surprised by the effectiveness and smashed his head into the steering wheel or windscreen or something.

 

I think the engine in that case may have originated in a Daihatsu Charade of mid 80s provenance and he mated it to a suzuki swift 5-speed gearbox. From the outside it looked totally standard and sounded not far off what the average 21st century mong thinks a pre WW2 car sounded like.

The Diesel engine from the Hijet was a 1.2, manufactured in Italy by Lombardini.
