Cartakeback Auctions.

Just had an e-mail from Cartakeback (I used them twice recently to get rid of scrappers) and it looks like they're doing an on-line auction now, called 'My Car Auction.'

The blurb reads as follows:

'Reach the Right Audience

When you come to sell your car, you need to reach the right audience. Listing your car for FREE on My Car Auction connects you directly to hundreds of registered motor traders, who will compete to buy your car.

We'll Keep You Updated

We know you're busy, so we'll e-mail you each time you get a new offer. Whether you're on the move or at home, you'll have access to each and every offer on our website.

You're in Control

With My Car Auction, you're in control. Unlike other auctions, you don't have to accept the highest bid. When you see an offer you're happy with, you can accept it at anytime - without having to wait around for the auction to close
.

Free Collection

You can choose to deliver your car to the buyer or arrange to have it collected. And when you're ready to hand over the keys, you'll be paid on the spot.

So why put up with phone call after phone call and an endless stream of tyre kickers, who'll haggle over a few quid and take up your spare time, when you can run your own car auction for FREE.
We know that selling your car is a big deal, so we're ready to answer any questions you have along the way. You can contact us at any time by telephone, e-mail or live chat. Visit My Car Auction.

I hope it's cheaper then the usual internet auction site (or better still free) and I'll give it a go at some point I think. If you don't have to accept an offer then on paper at least it could be quite good. Anything that chips away at those thieving fuckers who seem to have it all tied up is good with me.

Ps: Link doesn't seem to work yet, not a good start!

It sounds like they addressed a lot of the issues one commonly encounters on Ebay.

I guess a proper alternative online auction site just for motors is long overdue.

Actually, a proper alternative online auction site, period.

The only thing still going for Ebay are their really good search tools.

Hmmmmmm......

'We will keep you updated'

'You are in control'

'Reach the right audience'

Reminds me of the meaningless gasbaggery spouted by telesales advertising types that used to ring me hourly when I ran a small business....

'Twas bollocks of course, but may* work in this context. In my case it cost me ££££s, I was never kept updated, not even once, was never even remotely in control and as for an audience.... HAHAHA...

Suspicious? Moi?

It's basically a we buy any car but sourced out local dealers rather than a centralised death star.

There's loads of these trade sites out there but it's usually trade to trade. It's getting the initial critical mass of dealers and punters on the system at the that's key as if it starts slow at either end it'll just fade off and die. I guess this is why they're going out to their existing customer base.

I think the bit where it mentions 'connects you directly to 100s of registered motor traders' means you'll only ever get a kick in the bollocks price offered, just from pikey traders all over the country not just your locality. We've all run one of those 'Cars wanted' ads then taken the piss mercilessly out of desperate sellers,at some time, haven't we?... Oh, just me then.

There's a massive shortage of decent retail quality stock just now. This is what they'll be hoping to get but without having to to compete at auction for it.  A lot of stuff is going through auctions above CAP just now so if you can pay CAP for it then you're already quids in. The problem is (for them) that 80% of what goes on the site will be 54 plate Mondeos and 55 plate 2.2 pez Vectras that's too old or too hopeless to retail.

Is this much different from what they do now?

I've used them once before and put in the details of my scrap and got quotes for what various places/people were prepared to offer.

Sounds like a rebranding of their current service, possibly to try and poach custom from werobanyperson.com.
