Needs paint.

Absolutely incorrect. If you think that needs painting you might as well just go out and buy a brand new Kia C'eed or whatever, there is absolutely no hope for you.

Anyway, I only came here to post this

Definitley needs painting. Looks a tatty mess atm.

Am I on the wrong forum?  People are complaining about a car looking tatty and needing paint.  This is Autoshite not CleanYourCar.

Edited to add:  Yes, I realise the irony of ME saying this.

Would i be right in thinking this is one of the yank tanks the russians used as inspiration for the Chaika?

That 'patina' look became such a commonplace worn out shoe over the past 30 odd years. It actually became a rare sight to occasionally see an old yank that has been properly painted in between rows after rows of those stupid rockabilly scenemobiles at a meet.

Besides, there are a few nuances in between this stupid mock OMGRatluk and a brand new Kia, so there is hope aplenty.

When I looked at the op I had to check I wasn't on the blue forum and yes I am signed up on there, I have to agree with junkman the whole patina thing has been done to a great death by the scene sheeple, it's a nice looking car that could be made better with a bit of tidying,

This is as far from OMGRAtLUKPINEAPPLE as it is from a Kia C'd. To paint this you'd be looking at £4k........would you prefer it to be all lovely and shiney, and rotten as a pear underneath?

Why can't we have option 3, the quality of work they've done underneath continued on top? That would be awesome

Probably because the cost of doing it would probably make it far harder to sell. If they advertise it "as is", punters can make up their mind wether to have it painted or not, depending on their budget.

I quite like it line that, it has bags of character.

It would look good fully restored and painted too.

This doesn't really add to the debate though, SOZ.

I get this I really do, that car looks epic because of they way it's aged. It had a story to tell. Painting it would take that away.

Rubbing down a mk3 polo so that is goes rusty is just fucking stupid.

Sent from my Nokia 3310 using the force.

I didn't like it at first but the more I look at it the more I can see the genuine patina and the stories it must tell, and it would be a shame to wipe out so many years of history. Deliberate ratting of a perfectly sound car is incredibly stupid though and never comes close to the real deal.

What I don't like is that they ditched the original seat fabric, I don't think the new retrim is an improvement on what was in there.  I still think the whole thing is bloody lovely, even with that minor misdemeanour.

Posted

NOS original seat fabric might be very difficult to obtain for these. Then again, I have found rarer stuff in my life.

I like the car and the work they carried out on it so far. I'd love to take it on and finish the restoration.

Was I the only person who saw that car and thought of this?

That's what 90% of the British 'restoration' crew prefer.

Same ilk as the 'shiny paint, shite tyres' crow brigade that live near me (WAAAAAAAARK).

I'd drive it exactly as it is
