We tried a side game where we picked 5 cars each with the aim to get as close to £3000 of hammer fall value for all 5 combined. It added some bonus jeering and groaning as the money racked up before hammer fall.

The final scores were:

Sloth in a bowl £3505 - £505 out

Chaseracer £2235 - £765 out

Lord Sterling £5520 - £2520 out

We should do this again.

I was thinking a similar theme but slightly different.

The cheapest way to:

A diesel

A shopping car (under 1.5l engine)

An estate or MPV

A sports car or hot hatch

Something with leather

The diesel has to be different from the others

No MOT on the vehicle is a +£200 fine

Same thing for me. Been borrowing monies off ole' Ma. Went down to a job interview in Cheltenham and the 827 Crapee seems to have sipped petrol. Gotta run a few small errands tomorrow so hopefully that won't affect it too much.

I can't remember if I said I was coming to this or not, however if I did I'm a liar.

Apparently, getting married in 13 days and not yet having any sort of clothing or footwear is enough reason to go shopping instead of to the auctions.

Congratulations on getting married. To be fair, putting in the effort of making your dearly beloved happy on at least one day of their life is a sacrifice that does pay dividends in the long run.

Just remember that from now on your Allegro owning fantasies probably have to be put to bed (unless you are Junkman)

Or you could claim that you are out looking for a wedding present for her?

I might still make it. She's out on a bender at her mate's house so I believe that's what I call "advantage me".

Actually, I'm being quite unfair. I've not actually asked her as I thought we would shop tomorrow but she'll probably be a bit groggy so we'll go Sunday. There's PLENTY of time. That frees up the morning for an authentic car auction "burger".

Hey Pilz, don't forget my SatNav! ;)

See you all there in the crappy 827

Posted

Previa sold for £400, Despite the horrible noise it made when it entered the hall. so please add that to my total sloth!

Posted

£400 and a free box of crisps in the back. Bargain.

How much did the wanky Focus go for with the orange bits? That was my Diesel choice, bit I think hastily choosing the A3 for the Luxury car was my downfall.

Could've been worse.  You might've been the twat who chose the S320 that sold for two large...

Brill day! Great to meet you all again, I even got to drive Junkman's P6 V8 :lol:

What a brilliant car. I've had it with V6s, I think V8s are the way to go.

A lot of the cars there had me salivating, there is certainly a lot better, nicer cars to have than THAT "car" that I am unfortunately driving.

Pilz, thanks for bringing the SatNav ;)

Sorry for the slow posting I've been out and about all day

Here are the final results of the Cannock Auction Cheap Car Challenge in which our intrepid contestants has to select the cheapest combination of:

A shopping car (sub 1.5l)

An estate or MPV

A coupe, hot hatch or soft top

Something with leather seats

A diesel (not reusing the selection of any of the others)

1st equal on £2270 are Sloth In A Bowl and Junkman, Junkman was gutted as his final car, a tatty black Ka posted the £370 needed for a dead heat and a tidy green Ka had the hammer fall on £325 just a couple of lots later.

3rd on £2325 is Conrad

4th on £2490 is Pillock

5th on £4570 is Chaseracer

6th with a DNF after posting £675 on a Grand Scenic is Lord Stirling though his total score was probably lower than Dave's

Chaseracer got the wooden spoon for biggest single price with £2000 on a duelfuel Merc S320L

The best bargain that nobody selected was the Rover 75 estate that went for a paltry £220

I gave up tbh. I'm just not good at these games.

Seeing the 75 estate going for the price it did has really made want to get rid of the Coupe and pick myself a nice clean 75/Jag S-type. Anyone know of a cliff near the Midlands I can shove the Coupe off?

Mr Conelrad's X-type choice actually went for 400, which brings him much more annoyingly close to the winner's circle,

and lost me a cup of tea. We had an internal bet going on, whose X-type choice sells cheaper.

His rare dark blue 3 litre manual beat my overwhelmingly pointless light blue metallic 2.5 litre bader by 100 quid.

FOUR HUNDRED POUNDS FOR A THREE LITRE X TYPE?

Christ. It's a good job I had a family birthday to attend; I'd have been going back to Peebo with another car.

The TF failing to proceed into the auction hall. To my delight, and everyone else's visible disappointment it turned out not to be OMGHGF but rather a doddery old driver who couldn't work the immobiliser.

The real reason I went. Although still healthier than standing behind the Bora TDI at idle.
