Lets talk about the Renault 19

I also find the R19 to be a very pleasingly-designed car, for reasons which I have yet to fathom :)

I always thought that the 1.4 'energy' might be interesting, but it wasn't.

I know the guy who owns that BTCC car, its in bits being rebuilt at the moment!

Is he planning on racing it? If so, he's bloody brave. Tim Harvey described it as being "on an absolute knife edge"

Doubt it! it will be an extremely long term project been in bits for quite some time haha

I too like the R19. Back when I was a wee bairn my aunt had the 1.4 Energy Prima version in doom blue. I was sold on it by the cup holders on the inside of the glovebox lid. Not sure how good it was as it was fairly scruffy and made a screeching noise a lot but she had it for what seems like ages and ages.

I even had my want level reached when I was watching an old episode of Taggart recently and the villain drove a 16v Floppy Top example.

I like these too. I remember years ago, an elderly neighbour coming home with a brand new one. I vaguely remember him going on as if having "Energy" written on the back of it was something akin to an AMG badge...

The energy is still one of the best Engines renault mass produced, the cross flow design and its free revving ability made it pretty awesome, especially in Carb form with a shade over 80hp. Bear in mind that at this time renault were still selling 19s with the C type engine OHV 60hp!

I'm thinking January...but if I buy a tidy one I'll want to keep it that way so I really need to sort my storage out.

Is your W210 rusted to buggery as well?

Its a 1998, its had both front wings done, one was damaged due to someone denting it, the other started rusting. Rest of it is fairly sound, its nowhere near as nice as the 25 is to drive

Mine is a T plate, it has gone on all four wings, under both bumpers it's porous and today I found some more ratholes on the chassis...I think it's weigh in time

Perfect for OMG DRIFT YO!

If I tried that in mine it would snap in half.

Build up the revs and switch the TC off and it can get a bit hairy haha

19's are bona-fide classics, apparently. Went past this place today and they had one in the window (phase 2, 16v presumably) in amongst TR6s, Silver Shadows, a variety of Lotus 7-a-likes etc etc. You can just about see it on the right of the picture on the website.

Unfortunately I didn't see the price, and it's not on their website. More than I'd pay no doubt.
