Wonder if any of you fine chaps and chapettes can assist.

Noticed a couple of weeks ago, that the dash on Teh Shonky Seat glows and faded, almost like its on a dimmer switch, but when the ignition is off, keys removed, car locked etc etc.

I decided to sit there and watch it the other night (it's like a farking laugh riot here at Outlaw_Towers sometimes) and it appears that the EPC light glows very faintly, and the orange dash lights fade in and out, sometimes flicker a bit, then will be off (as they're supposed to be) for a random period of time. EPC light is constant with a dull glow though.

It's wouldn't be a massive issue if I used the car every day, but i don't. It's draining the battery, so as a consequence, if i park it on Sunday afternoon, like today, i need to start it again at least by Wednesday night, or it won't start on Friday afternoon when I actually need it.

Anyone experienced this before in anything - VAG products especially; and what's the general opinion on what it might be.

NB: I have attempted to join the Seat forum, but they appear to be ignoring me.

Cheers.

Bad earth?

Failing that, have you had a feel round the floor area for damp patches (fnarr fnarr) as VAG products do seems pretty good at letting water in which causes havoc with electrics?

You can say that again. :-?

Cheers chaps, it does steam up quite readily, so I'm guessing there must be some leakage somewhere, although it's not immediately obvious.

I'll get one of those smoke machines Edd China got on WD's to check the Aston.

Like Fuck I will!

Get 4 of my mates round and we'll all sit in it and smoke fags, and I'll get someone to see where it's leaking out. It's the Autoshite way.

VAG stuff is also very good at steaming up in general. Getting in the Polo to drive it home on a cold night is beyond a joke sometimes, and I often weaken and "clear" the inner windscreen with my sleeve.

Anyway I need to get off Autoshite and get some work done now! Let us know the outcome...

What sort of Seat is it? Toledos and Leons leak like sieves through the doors (ask me how I know...) although are relatively straightforward to fix.

Clean out the plenum chambers! All VAG stuff have grommets in where the battery and other assorted stuff lurks. They block with leaves, twigs, dead kittens and nuns, the plenum chambers fill up with water, and you end up with wet footwells, and all sorts of electrical unpleasantness. Remove grommets completely, shouldn't happen again

Those nuns are pain in the RS to get clear....... been there, done that.

If it's dry this weekend, i'll have a bash at it, and maybe stick the de-humidifier in there too.

@ Mr Lobster, it's a 2002 Leon Cooooprah

Nice, 1.8T presumably?   I love my Toledo, it is fantastic. Anyway, main sources of water leaks seem to be all the door seals give up with age but one of the Seat forums has a handy guide how to fix them (basically waterproof silicone sealant is your friend) and the pollen filter gets blocked and leaks but other than that I don't think theres anything that common.

I think the back doors are more common to leak, I kept meaning to repair them on mine with some silicone but instead drove around with an inch of water in each rear footwell - meant people were hesitant to blag lifts with me.

The Touran is a bugger for steaming up, every morning it's an effort to get rid of the condensation. Tried a box of kitty litter in it, everything - just keeps happening.
