A mate of mine has an L reg coupe with only 30 odd k on it hes getting rid of - 1.0l - always had a soft spot for these - if it was  mk2 not 3 it would be in the drive by now.....still might be nice winter motoring!!!

Bloody good motors I still miss my A reg 1983 polo classic GL,

It really wouldn't worry me if it was a Mk2 or 3 with that mileage and being a coupe it would be a must have in my books.

Only downer I would say is that on that year its going to have a cat.

Buy it and put some pics up you know it makes sense .

It even has a badge saying catalyst on the boot!!  I am swaying that way though - as winter approaches I fear that I shouldn't use the Montego daily for fear of it fading away in the salt!!

I've had 5 Polos in the last few years and currently have a saloon and a breadvan. I'd say they were decent enough cars, cheap to run, fix and insure and pretty reliable. Any idea on the trim level? if it's a genesis model they come with dark tartan style interiors, a sunroof and a rev counter which is nice.

I had a standard Mk3 coupe with the 1043cc engine... nice enough, in fact very pleasant motoring for the £150 it cost. No dings, no rust at all, and very easy to fix - as I proved by doing an engine swap on a driveway with 24 hours engine crane hire and zero mechanical skills.

The 1.3s are quite quick really, they don't weigh a lot thanks to quality spanish steel.

The coupes are the most desirable shape, they're great cars and really well built. The only thing I didn't like about mine was the terrible terrifying brakes that made you want to open the door and put your shoe down on the tarmac.

They are also contenders for the "most un-coupe like car to be branded a coupe award" that I just made up

I dearly miss my old 1043cc Polo and would encourage anyone to own one at least once.  They're superb little hacks, you really can't go far wrong if you want a little motor to get you around over winter.
