garethj Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 My old Bora TDI PD Daily driver is remapped and averages 62mpg (160 miles daily) What's the idea with this remapping lark? I occasionally read it on Pistonheads but if I read "loads of torque" or "gave this other driver a nasty shock when I booted it" once more, I'm going to have a fucking nosebleed. barefoot 1
Bobthebeard Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 11.3 MPG in a 1.6HDi ? WTF?Never ever go to Wiltshire... Clearly a fuel sucking hell hole.
Spiny Norman Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I'm guessing that by 'Castle Combe' he means the race circuit. It's amazing what a morning of full throttle hooning does to a car's mpg figures.Top Gear once said they got just over 1mpg from a Lamborghini on their track and single figures was the order of the day most of the time.
michael1703 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Range Rover DSE Who needs a hybrid anyway? by Tayne, on FlickrWtf? How did you achieve that?
plasticvandan Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 oh,and that was over 40 years ago lol... the worst my Reliants would do was 55mpg,and that was thrashed, average around 63-65mpg at motorway speeds, being gentle would get well over 70mpg.
Rusty_Rocket Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Top banana for me is the 106 1.5 diesel, I have two, both get thrashed down motorways, sit in traffic and cart all sorts of rubbish about. Average mpg over the last 4 years is around 61mpg.The Discovery averages 29-31 mpg and recently did a 300 mile trip towing around 3tons which resulted in a drop to 24mpg.Worst for me was my Range Rover 4.6. It did 18mpg on petrol, and around 16 on lpg. It's also the only vehicle I've run out of fuel in (twice) because I simply couldn't believe it had chewed through so much fuel!
michael1703 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Coasting downhill?Needs to be a lot of hills! My 2.5dse, if you put £100 of fuel in will do 450-500 miles to fill up, best mpg was when I drove to Italy through France and Switzerland, I got 750-800 miles from a tank
willswitchengage Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 2002 Fabia SDIBest: 80mpg (trip computer), sticking religiously to 60mph on the motorwayAverage: Once calculated properly 70mpg driving across EuropeWorst: 55mpg (trip computer) carrying kayaks and fat people across Wales 1991 Citroen BX 1.6Best: 51mpg doing 60 on the motorway for a long timeAverage: 45mpg (mainly motorway)Worst: 32mpg (started commuting) 1990 Subaru Justy 1.2Best: 55mpg slow motorwayWorst: 37mpg winter commutesAverage: 43mpg mainly commuting and fast motorway 1992 Citroen BX 1.9DBest: 52mpg (commuting)Worst: 41mpg (kayaks and flooring it around Scotland) Other car's I've tested... forddeliveryboy Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Genuine 50+ from a '96 A6 diesel on 90% waste veg, on the motorway under 80mph. The 6th gear is very long. My average is 43, including short runs. Good for such a big estate car.
Pete-M Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Skoda Superb 2.0 TDi. If you can't get 50 mpg from one of those you're doing something very wrong indeed. Least MPG I ever managed from one on a run was 50 something, most was closer to 75 mpg.
robinmasters Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 See below. I was getting 38mpg flooring it everywhere, not that flooring it makes it go much faster.
garethj Posted September 23, 2013 Author Posted September 23, 2013 One of Dollywobbler's ideas, a Ford TDDi. I could be tempted by a 2003ish Mondeo because they're quite good value but I believe there are expensive failures at 100,000 miles including, but not limited to, injectors, clutch, dual mass flywheel. That's £1200 for the car and £800 for the repairs which could be around the corner. I know the older TDDi engines are generally rougher but who gives a shit? Will they plough on with reasonable costs in the future? I think they were fitted to the Focus, sometimes the Fiesta (cheaper to buy than a Focus) but were they on a Mondeo too?
