Miserable holidays.

Don't forget this, something to do with the Walkett's of Ginetta fame. Having owned a few MkiV's I'd love to see the body roll angles this can achieve.post-17414-0-81561800-1378922068_thumb.jpg

I can't think of anything more depressing than waking up in the drizzle in a field somewhere in a rusty, cramped old Marina or Maestro camper conversion smelling of damp.

The stuff of nightmares.

I'm the only one who likes tents then? Well, ok, tolerates tents. Seems most folk at Shitefest are kipping in their cars, which makes even that Golf seem like living the life of luxury. Kipping in cars is guaranteed to be horrible in my book, especially if that car is a Citroen Dyane.

Golf? Sleeping? Luxury?

It's workable.... but it was a last resort. Pillock's Top Tip is to put an airbed in deflated, then pump it up in situ so it fits around the turrets and whatnot. I'd never do it again without a decent bed, and warm duvet or sleeping bag - cars get REALLY cold with no insulation.

I've slept in a Type 2 panel van which was equally miserable, again through no insulation. Tents seem warmer in my book, I don't know why but a couple of layers of fabric seem to insulate better than one sheet of metal - trapped air? Plus the condensation in any sort of vehicle is miserable, if you don't crack a window (and thus let more cold in all night), the car will just feel damp for days.

I'd have one of those micro-campers based on a pickup, they seem quite practical. I am a tenty person though, tents are used for sleeping only so I wouldn't use the extra space of a fifty thousand quid motorhome. And I go camping to get away from the TV and stuff.

I like those pickup ones that having living quarters with little legs you can detatch from their pickup and just leave standing when you get pissed off with lugging it around.

I used to own this but when it was converted they didn't cater for tall people and the drivers seat wouldn't move back far enough to be able to drive comfortably. I did have a night out in it and it was pretty good my other half wasn't convinced though and refused the offer of cheap holidays.

I used to sleep in a smoke-filled Renault 4 van with no bedding on the ribbed and filthy load floor, and it leaked....Still better than a tent though (I still lived with my folks who had a stricter No Smoking rule than National Express).    Nowadays I have gravitated to home ownership and a T25.   I don't smoke any more either, but at least my transport is still dirty white, gutless and leaky.   And still better than a tent....

The Monty Estate was grand for camping as you could fold the rear seats forward and you had a slight incline... leave the sunroof open a wee crack - it was ideal.

These are good for a lie-down.  Can't really vouch for sleeping ability, as such, but...

the cortina based starcraft was one of several incf the sherwood (same front end) pickup/est, aswell as the spartan all made by the same company.

whist there roomy there slow & thirsty (20mpg) from a 2.0 is doing very well.

that caddy looks to be a demountable which give the best of both worlds ideal for weekends etc.
