Master plan. Advice needed!

Having a lot of love for the Porsche 944 since I bought mine a couple of years ago I have bought another. An early one (1984 ) as they differ from mine (1988 ) in many ways..

Persuaded Domestic Management that the new purchase would be purely a project car, to do up a bit over winter then sell on next year. She agreed to the purchase.

Thing is, I don't want to sell it! I want to keep both of 'em.

Any tips on how to turn the situation around so I can keep both cars?

Say nothing just pretend your still working on things and turn the conversation to handbags

Just keep saying: "Market forces mean this isn't the ideal time to sell. These are investments* and can only become more valuable*."

Fortunately, the Autoshite asterisk isn't spoken loud.

Yes, what DW said. This is the current ploy that I am using to maintain ownership (for now) of the MGF.

**Substitute anything 'Hello Kitty' for 'handbag'.

Sounds almost foolproof!

Very simple : do as you promised, and get the car roadworthy over the winter. Then put it up for sale, at 2-3 times the current market value.

Then 'wait for the right buyer, who can appreciate the value of this fine classic', while regularly using the car. For full effect, occasionally sigh and complain that the 'current market for 944s is not great' during dinner.

I've went over my maximum vehicle capacity again with purchase of this 5 series. I think if I bring it anywhere near the house I'll be sleeping in it.

That would do it!

Pretend it is worth 5 grand and tut over lack of response.... Sweet!

Tell her you are the man of the house and if you want to have 2 Porsche 944's you jolly well will!

see how far that gets you.

Next time she asks, take her into another room and claim you are an alien from another planet (mars), 2000 years away, and that you arrived here in the speed of sound, to save your dying planet.

Review the film KPAX for some tips.

Just keep swapping non-working parts between the two of them. No-one will buy a car that doesn't work so the moment you 'fix' one the other one will pack up, and she must realise you need a reliable car.

Give it too her*, it's then her Porsche. every time you're out working on it you're improving her car not wasting time on your car, instead of moaning at you about the money you spend on it, she'll be thankful that you're keeping her car in top nick. Sure you run the risk she decides to sell her Porsche, or even worse asks for it to be sprayed pink.

* as soon as I typed this I knew it would be taken the wrong way**
