Bucketeer Posted October 9, 2013 Author Posted October 9, 2013 Unfortunately, due to the lack of plug sockets/charging points in the woods and countryside I've been camping in en-route to Turkey, all the wonderful shite encountered has only been photographed with my mind camera. Now in Istanbul and with a re-electrificated camera, some Turkochod. Thumb skillz. Shaky skillz. I've come to the realisation that I will probably never return to Britain to live and that I'm now on a lifelong world-tour, with Bulgaria as my first home. I will definitely return to Bulgaria sporadically to relax and chill out and top up on communistachod but currently on the agenda is North Cyprus for a month or two and then possibly Switzerland for a couple of months winter work to pay for next years travelling. The only certain thing is that wherever I go, I will find TEH GUD AZ SHYTE. Junkman Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 The square in Plovdiv proves my point - there will be yanks, no matter where you go.Also, the orange coupe appears to be a Glas GT, the rarity of which would make hen's teeth and rocking horse shit abundant in comparison.
Bucketeer Posted October 9, 2013 Author Posted October 9, 2013 I know* it's a Tofas thingummy which looks like it's based on a Fiat Tempra or similar. Every second car in Turkey seems to be either a Tofas or a Renno 9/11/12.
Junkman Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Tofas Murat Kombi - Fiat 131 based and thus with real wheel drive.
RedSparrow Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 GR9 as usual. This looks suspiciously like it's commie dictator spec, Honecker had one I know for sure:
Junkman Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 They were built in Romania, so this is not really a surprise.I should try one one day, they can't be worse than the French built ones. They just can't.
Bucketeer Posted October 9, 2013 Author Posted October 9, 2013 Nicolae Ceaușescu also had a CX. Plus Haile Selassie, Idi Amin, Leonid Brezhnev and Cheech AND Chong owned SM's.* *According to the internet
RedSparrow Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 They were built in Romania, so this is not really a surprise.I should try one one day, they can't be worse than the French built ones. They just can't.CXs?Are you sure? Anyway... scruff 1
Junkman Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 CXs?Are you sure?Affirmatively. Oltcit S.A. built CXes, but only 'Prestige' derivatives for the comrades that were more equal than others. They also built GSes and GSAs for comrades doctors, lawyers and rocket scientists.Dacia built R20s and R30s from CKD kits for the big brass, too.Make no mistake, there were rich people in the East Bloc, too. Entirely btw, Erich Honecker had several custom built CX Limousines to his disposal: A privilege neither Giscard D'Estaing nor Francoise Mitterand enjoyed.
Bucketeer Posted October 11, 2013 Author Posted October 11, 2013 Another change of plans meant i had to get to North Cyprus ASAFP. I've spent the last day or two on coaches and boats but I'm here now. Pleasingly, it seems that all buses and boats anywhere East of Central Europe have wi-fi so I've spent the last couple of days sat on my arse and perusing Autoshite. Could be worse.I've been told that due to exorbitant used car prices in Cyprus and the £bumrape cost of importing, there is not much chod here. From the several hours spent walking from the port to my port of call, I beg to differ. There seems to be a mix of horrible modern image-mobiles and some right old craptastic stuff presumably handed down from generation to generation. The next few days of exploration will uncover the truth but I grabbed a few beauties* on the walk today. There appears to be more Renault 9's here than people, and they all seem to be the Broadway special edition.I'll get more of a handle of the place in the next few days.
purplebargeken Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Kittens are looking a tad worried again. Junkman 1
Bucketeer Posted October 11, 2013 Author Posted October 11, 2013 I will turn the kitten's frowns upside down with some Cypriot lovelies as soon as I possibly can. That's (not) a promise.
Bucketeer Posted October 13, 2013 Author Posted October 13, 2013 Old. Renaults. Everywhere. Some the shade of a sun-raped ex-pat pensioners' leathery skin. Quality lanky Northern bastard shadow ghost foto-skilz. More (and better) to come when I've got over the fact that Gin is cheaper than beer in the local shop here and I can manage to walk again. morris_ital_lover, skattrd and scruff 3
Bucketeer Posted October 14, 2013 Author Posted October 14, 2013 Early morning stroll spottings. Toyota Corsa. A sunny Sunny. Renault Rodeo. Very glad I wore my loose fitting shorts this morning. Pure filth. scruff, michael t, morris_ital_lover and 1 other 4
Lukas Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 A lot of different cars in the northern, turkish part of Cyprus, compared to the greek part. Very interesting!
Bucketeer Posted October 14, 2013 Author Posted October 14, 2013 I'll be taking a walk over to the South side before I head off elsewhere so will be good to compare/contrast.
Bucketeer Posted October 14, 2013 Author Posted October 14, 2013 I presumed they were Hyundai Pony X2 thingys. Junkman 1
nigel bickle Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 20 years ago I spent a few weeks in Northern Cyprus, my immaculate rental being a Renault 9 Broadway. Not a mark on it, about 30km's on the clock. It was a marvellous experience- felt like a different world
scruff Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Fantastic thread, it's got it all, this is what autoshite is about
Bucketeer Posted October 15, 2013 Author Posted October 15, 2013 Fantastic thread, it's got it all, this is what autoshite is about Ta very much. The only problem* I've found since I started this thread is that I seem to only be seeing the chod content of all the places I visit now, rather than exploring the historical/cultural aspects.Mind you, this is history and culture to me, so who cares. Anyway, a mixed shite-bag of spottages from this morning. Toyota Sprinter. There is a lot of apparently 'Japanese market only' stuff floating about round here. Not entirely sure why. There's a Toyota Fielder living by the Gin shop. This Coarser only just scraped through 'shite quality control' mainly due to the horrible wheels. Nice view though. Unconvinced. Fronterrorist. Possibly the only Volvo I've seen that's been more unloved than this one was my old 740.And that's because ALL MY CARZ IZ DOOMED. Nissan Sunny 4x4 saloon. Jersey registered Moggler. The Tofas from yesterday, up close and personal. I think guy might become my new best friend. As well as the Bluebird, Cortina and Scrotey van, he has an old Tofas, a Renault 9, a Fiat Strada and all sorts of other GR9 looking toss partly hidden from view round the corner. I will return to pester him very soon. The clock's struck Gin now, so that's enough for today I think. Junkman and scruff 2
Bucketeer Posted October 16, 2013 Author Posted October 16, 2013 Short stroll about this morning. michael t 1
Bucketeer Posted October 18, 2013 Author Posted October 18, 2013 I went for a walk in the mountains today and managed to take pictures of things that weren't cars.Got of a few cars too, though. Another one. I liked the colour. On the way back down from the mountain I stumbled across this bunch of beauties. OMGRATLUKHOTROD EEZY RESTO 95% KOMPLEET Toyota Platz. Turns out, the guy with a yard full of cool stuff isn't going to be my new best friend after all. I didn't know what 'get the fuck off my land' was in Turkish, but I found out seconds after taking this picture. D Spares & Tyres, Junkman and scruff 3
Bucketeer Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 Different day, (slightly) different shite. Truck-shite part 1. Truck-shite part 2. Answers on a postcard. The best taxi in the world EVA. Junkman 1
Bucketeer Posted October 25, 2013 Author Posted October 25, 2013 Todays exploration is entitled Shite Walk - Trespass Edition. The rewards are sometimes there for the spotter willing to go the extra mile (straight through private land, gardens, barns, etc.). First off, I just had to revisit the sparkling Marina. Luminous R11. Poor little Seat, do you want to come home with me? I'll look after you. Actual, genuine, real life barn finds. Austin (Cambridge?). Behind that lurked a Mk2 Cav. Nissan Eczema. This Avenger is the garage owners daily steed. According to him, this was also an actual, genuine, real life barn find. More Tofu. David Bailey I aint (part 1). David Bailey I aint (part 2). A bit of bike-shite. And finally, just because it made me smile.
morris_ital_lover Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Top pappage, its good to see that there is still plenty of chod hanging on in Cyprus. After the fall of France, this must be one of the few proper "shitespots" left in Europe.
Bucketeer Posted October 28, 2013 Author Posted October 28, 2013 A big old hike in to the mountains today, with some chod spottage en-route. Ford CorTaunus. First time seeing one of these since France (excluding via Mr. D. Wobbler's photos). And I get two in the space of 30 seconds. Double beige Tofas-iness is hard to ignore. You're a long way from home. This guy has got (shite) taste Part 1. This guy has got (shite) taste Part 2. Once up in the mountains, I thought that would be the end of any spottagering. Then I came across these caterpillar tracks leading down a huge drop. I was curious how they got there. From some old abandonded/crashed tank-shite, is how they bloody got there. Junkman, fotorabia and Shep Shepherd 3

Bucketeer Posted October 28, 2013 Author Posted October 28, 2013 As far as my limited N.Cyprus knowledge stretches, it is arse-intrudingly expensive to import and register cars here and I can only presume that someone drove that Rover all the way here (minus the wet sea bit). Which is brave.
